Subject: Who went to their reunion?
I returned to mine full of expectations of no longer being the freak, having turned into something of a swan, (at least compared to the black-clad Siouxsie wanna-be I was in high school), and instead found myself explaining, "No, they're real, you just didn't care if I HAD them in high school. And don't believe what Gio tells you either... he never touched 'em no matter what he's trying to claim now."
Anybody else find that things were just the same? Or had things actually changed?
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
same people...same attitudes....more fat...less hair...but all in all....high school....just 10 years later!!!!!!!!!!!
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I just missed mine by 2 months when my husband and I moved with his job. I was sad because I would have liked to have seen what some of my old classmates were doing with thier lives... :(
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
They are not a big deal in Australia, so it is rare to hear of one. They only seem to happen here for the 'private' schools.
At the risk of sounding cynical, I would frankly not want to go to a reunion and open up so many old wounds. I left school half way through grade 11 for sound reasons.
It would be interesting from the standpoint of finding out how many of my classmates had ended up spending time in the clink however. I can think of 5 or so that would have been odds-on
.....Truth hurts sometimes....

Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I never went to any of my reunions. I vowed to go to my 25th reunion in 2000 but never did. I think my mom went to her 25th reunion but she died the year before her 50th. That is the only reunion she ever went to.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I was never even invited to my reunion. Kinda sucks because I wanted to go. I think it is because I moved and got married and my parents no longer lived in the house I grew up in. I asked my sister to watch the paper for the announcement, but she blew it off. She didn't care about hers, so she thinks I shouldn't care about mine. Now I am registered on classmates.com so I should be able to go to the next one. The people I know who went said it was boring, anyway.

I went to a private school and it *does* seem to be pretty standard.
I didn't go to my 10th (due to organisational chaos, it actually was an 11th - no-one was surprised, though LOL! ), and this year I heard about my 15th, so maybe, maybe not...
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I missed my 10th reunion because I was getting ready to move back to Arkansas. We didn't have a 15 year and my 20th is coming up in a couple of years and I will most definitely be there. I am curious to see how everyone looks after 20 years!!

Same here goldie! I still have some friends that will not go no matter what. It almost seems like its against thier religeon. Which is funny since they really dont have anything to hide... both are doing well and look great!
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I went to my 10 year and was really dissapointed. None of my friends went. Like everyone says, all the girls were fat and all the guys were bald. My 21st is this July. It's a combination of a few years so it should be more fun. We'll see.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
My twenty year reunion is next year... a bunch of us said way back when that our twenty year reunion was going to be held in the Bahamas. I'm anxious to see if anyone remembers! :P
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
Went to my 10-year reunion in '99 and had an absolute blast. The toughest part of the weekend was juggling my priorities - dancing to Prince while two-fisting Heinekens on the dance floor with most of my ex-classmates, and then running outside to watch Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals in the patio lounge with a few other ex-classmates. :P
I still keep in touch with a dozen or so friends from my graduating class, and I knew they'd be there, so it was a no-brainer to attend. Although I mingled and managed to say hi to - and even offend a few ;-) - people I never knew that well, I spent most of the time hangin' with the people I was good buds with in high school. Also got to know a few people I never thought I woulda had anything in common with, and that was fun, too.
Other than getting married, having kids and watching hairlines recede, not much had changed about most of us. Actually, when people asked me what I was up to these days, I'd say, "Remember what I was doing last time you saw me (going to school at Univ. of Florida)? Well, I'm still doing it." :-)
The worst part about our reunion is that it was segregated, for the most part (a few black ex-classmates showed). A black chick who was part of the planning committe felt our black ex-classmates - and there are many of them, 'cause DBHS is a very racially/ethnically diverse school - were being slighted in the planning process. She didn't explain how or why this was so, but left the committee and planned another reunion. I got my invite to this one, which was much later in the year, roughly a week before the reunion. Called the organizer and told him I declined the invite, as I went to my reunion already.
Ironically, as much fun as I had at my 10-year reunion, going to the 20-year reunion doesn't thrill me too much. I mean, I spent so little time with many of the people at my 10-year reunion, why will I care more about seeing them after another 10 years have passed? Supposedly the 20-year reunion is a bigger deal 'cause people have changed more dramatically by that point, but outside the circle of friends I still keep in touch with, I just don't care a whole lot. ::)
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I went to my 10 year back in 2000. Heck, I was also on the reunion comittee and ran/run our reunion website. Funny thing is, I was never that "into" school, and certainly didn't hang around "that crowd". But, since I still live in the town we graduated from, and had become adult friends with some of my old classmates, I just kind of fell into it.
I guess it was nice, kind of interesting to see what had become of everybody. But, there were some school snobs that had just grown into snobbish adults (big shock). I was surprised how many people hadn't changed. One of my old friends, one of my best in high school-we'd kept in touch through the years, but when reunion time came she got all "wierd" about everything. She was just devastated that our "old crowd" wasn't all hanging out like we used to, because I, after all, was hanging in the popular crowd now..like the ASB president and his family (who we'd become good friends with over the last couple of years), and other kids we'd not hung around in school, but as adults we'd gotten connected with planning the reunion and so forth here in town. The thing is, hello, we're grown up now!!! We didn't have "popular kids" anymore, ya know? But this friend just didn't seem to be able to deal with it. That and she was having marital problems and was coming to the reunion, IMO, somewhat "on the prowl"..her attitude was just like it had been 10-12 years ago. The rest of us close friends had married, had kids and grown up. She'd done all that, but her attitude hadn't grown up with her. ::)
Eh, overall it was nice, but I would never have chosen to get involoved with it if it weren't for the fact that I was easy to find here in town! ;)

About the same here...and my close friends, who still lived in town, didn't even go. Anyway, I'll probably pass on future reunions.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I skipped out on my reunion. I was all set to head to it the day of the event, and at the last minute just decided to stay in bed instead. The kids had been disposed of (untraceable, and I'll deny it if asked ;D) prior to that day so I made a weekend of it instead. I figured I didn't know if any of my friends would be going, and without them there was no one there who'd care to see me anyway. I never even received an invitation, I heard about it from another classmate...

Hi mrgazpacho
I don't know if I caused any offence but none was intended. What I was trying to say was that in my experience I rarely hear of them. When I do, it is one of the grammar schools that seems to be having them.
I would be surprised if anyone at the school I went to had the drive to organise one !

No offence taken - I was merely confirming first-hand your belief that private schools really do seem to have reunions as a standard thing. Old Boys' Club and all that...

Thanks Mrgp...
Should wish to upset anyone (unless of course I was intentionally setting out to do so).
Yeah - there wasn't much sense of an old boy's club at the state high school I went to...... :'(

I'm having my 15 year reunion this August. I'm really looking forward to seeing how everyone has changed over the years. I'm even going to be the DJ. I have quite a bit of 80s tunes on CD.
Any requests?

;D I hope to go to my twentieth in 2004. I quit in the middle of 12th grade. I figured I wasn't passing so what the hell. Well, I said before on another topic that I wouldn't change much of my past, but that would be one thing I would change. Only because I missed out on alot. I recieved my G.E.D., then went to computer school. I'm in the process of trying to get invited. It would certainly be great to see some old friends. ;D

I feel kind of left out here. We have never had a reunion :-[
Some of my close friends and myself tried to get one started, unfortunately there was never enough feedback. No one seemed interested. This was about 4 years ago. I would love to have a reunion.......What do you think memories, friends, embarrassing moments ::), life changes, funny stories ;Detc. is all about! How can i get people interested? What are some of the responsibilities of planning a reunion? How do i get started? Could anyone let me know........greatly appreciated.

Missed my 10th reunion. The wife had the nerve to give birth that weekend!
Hers was 2 yrs later, but she had absolutely no desire to go. Haven't heard of a 15th (shoulda been this year) Plan on making it to my 20th.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I went to my 20th last year and it was AMAZING!! It was so weird b/c it was like we were all best friends and had been forever....there were no cliques like there was in highschool...I had one girl start talking to me and she said "You never talked to me in school" and I said "Yeah, b/c I thought you were a stuck up b*tch!" LOL We had the best time and all decided we'd do another in 5 years instead of 10!
Rock on ALF class of '81!

Here's a story you ought to read:

It's about a woman contemplating going to her 20th reunion.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I went to my 10th.. but the night before, I somehow twisted funny in the night, and had intense back and shoulder pain.. never had anything like it before or since.. only lasted about a day.. but after about an hour there, I had to bolt, I just couldn't stand the pain anymore.. not really sure why I even bothered.. most of the people I hung around with never showed, which didn't surprise me..
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
My younger brother went to his a few years back, and apparently everyone asked him why I wasn't there! I've corresponded with a few people with whom I was in high school, and our paths have crossed from time to time, but that's as far as it has gone.
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I could care less whether or not I see anyone I went to school with. I still live in the same area i grew up in. :) Every now and than, run into a high school friend. I try to hide from them. ;D I get tired of the, 'how you been' bs and pretending I care. ::)
I had good times in high school. I am not bitter..really! :P I just simply don't give a crap. ;)
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
I'll let you know when I return from my 20th in two weeks.

Ah well, I just sent my regrets to the organiser of my 15th on Saturday - that's the day we're having a big birthday party for my mum...
Subject: Re: Who went to their reunion?
My school has them every 5 years, but I've never gone back. My 15th is in two years, and I may go. One of the main reasons I've never gone back is because they haven't allowed guests to attend, it was for alumni only because they wanted to keep it to a girl thing (went to the last all girl public school in the U.S.).
Just went to my other's 20th reunion. It was interesting. I bet he doesn't ask me to go to the next one. Not after I had three glasses of wine and slapped his butt while telling him he was the cutest guy there and that I would do him. And not to mention the parking lot incident...
