Subject: WWF Superstars who have died

Written By: Todd Zastrow on 05/23/02 at 02:38 p.m.

I'm pretty sure that almost every pre-teen boy watched wrestling in the 80's.  Here's a list of superstars from that decade who have passed on.

Davey Boy Smith (British Bulldog) - This JUST happened Sunday, May 19th.  Heart Attack

Owen Hart - In a horrible accident he was jumping to the ring from the rafters supported by a cable that snapped.  He hit his chest on the post.

Junk Yard Dog - car accident

Ravishing Rick Rude - cancer

Andre The Giant - heart attack

Brian Pillman - drug overdose

Gorilla Monsoon - Cancer

Dino Bravo - Not sure how

Terry Von Eric (Texas Tornado) - heart attack

These are all I can think of at the moment.  Now, while I'm on the topic could somebody please clear up this rumor:

IS ULTIMATE WARRIOR DEAD???????

He made a brief return wrestling a couple years ago in the WCW, but the rumor is that there have been, like, 4 people playing the part.  DOes anybody know for sure?

The original Ultimate Warrior died of liver failure due to his steroid usage. Rather than killing off the UW character like he should have, Vince McMahon chose to bring in a bad East Coast actor to play the "new and improved" Ultimate Warrior. What this guy will do to retain his millions! >:(

:( I didn't know Junk Yard Dog and Ravishing Rick Rude died. What ashame. One of my favorites is wrestling his last match this weekend. Jimmy Superfly Snuka! One of the best.

I used to love wrestling. It's just to crude now. Definitley something I wouldn't take my son to.

I believe Dino Bravo was shot and killed. Also Adrian Adnois was killed in a car accident.

Yes, Dino was shot as part of a mafia hit... turns out he was a bad guy outside of the ring as well.

Newbie here...just thought I'd pop in with a few answers...

Rick Rude died of a heart attack thought to be brought on by pain killers & past steroid abuse.

Gorilla Monsoon died from complications of diabetes, not cancer.

The Ultimate Warrior is not deceased.  Jim Hellwig has played the Ultimate Warrior every time he's been in the ring in both WWF and WCW.  He is now living in Scottsdale, Arizona and has legally changed his name to "Warrior".

There was a Warrior look-alike in '95 and '96 in WCW named the Renegade.  He *is* dead, committing suicide a few years back.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan survived a bout with cancer and is still wrestling.  I met him a few weeks back at a local show.

Just for posterity sake: the Von Erich clan (real names are Addkisson) :
Jack Jr died long ago of electrocution
David of infection
Kerry  shot himself to death
Mike  committed suicide of overdose at Lake Dallas
Chris  shot himself to death

Kevin, as far as I know is the now only living brother.

I grew up near the Adkisson family, and they were good people. Very sad.

I heard about Mr.Perfect.I can't believe he just dropped dead on his couch and died. What a sad way to end your career! :'(
He would've made something for himself if he was still around with The WWF by now.

I found this out on the net and it's true. Elizabeth (manager of 'Machoman' Randy Savage) has died in Lex Luger's house!
She died due to a mix of Vodka and pain-killers.

Dynamite Kid is still alive, but I believe he is confined to a wheelchair. He had back problems and other ailments that he attributed to steroid use.

Freddy was the epitome of the bad guy wrestler, when he was young and had that waterfall platinum blond doo, and the voice, mean and scary, the best.  Saw him apply a frontal choke hold to this guy, the ref made him break the hold, he re-applied it, the ref made him break, he re-applied it over and over, Fred knew the system!  He sold cars at a Ford dealer in Atlanta too.

Too true. Mention 'Bruiser Brody' as well. He's been dead since the mid to late 80s but he's a legend.

I just read on the internet about Freddy Blassie's death. What a shame! Oh well he's said his last 'Pencil neck geek' insult.
