Subject: Deleted scenes from famous films...
I just noticed this, but the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High has a scene deleted in where Judge Reinhold's character talks to a guidance counselor. The scene is featured once in a while when it's played in the cable network, TBS (the "superstation").
I also saw that Escape From New York is missing the beginning sequence where Snake Plissken is caught at the subway station. The film jumps to the part where the police are bringing him in to talk to the Van Cleef dude.
Kind of sucks...

One edited movie that really p*ssed me off has to have been Titanic x years ago in Britain. Let me explain.
X months previous they boasted that they would have "The whole of Titanic shown on the BBC on Christmas Day". I then read in <MAGAZINE INSPECIFIC> that it would be "Edited" with no particular reason stated. That left me quite piste off.

Abyss... about 45 minutes worth off the original release...

Eyes Wide Shut has the dirty parts cut down a bit, but the international release has it in all it's filthy glory. Hmmm, I'm still not ready to shell out some $60 (USD) for it...
Man, that really sucks about The Abyss. 45 mins!? Damn. Pretty much all the foreign films, which I tend to like, have deleted scenes for their American release. Seriously, that bytes. The UK and Japan get the better deal here plus they're both Region 2 - which reminds me to get that adaptor for my Playstation 2...

That's my point about the R-rated director's cut of "Amadeus". It was a great PG-rated film without the nudity, but now that Milos Forman restored the nudity, I'm afraid it won't be as good as it was. Nobody wants to see Tom Hulce or F. Murray Abraham naked. :(

I'm not sure if it's that much, but it's somewhere up there (between 35-50 minutes). Guess they figured the movie was too long in the original production. The director's cut is a bit preachier than the original (which may have also been why it was cut) but it goes a heck of a lot more into the aliens. If you like the original, I'd suggest seeing the unedited version (I generally won't even watch the original anymore).

General comment - movies appear to have been edited ONCE when they first went to TV. Scenes cut from Fast Times (Phoebe Cates walking in on Judge Reinhold comes to mind) and other classics (Animal House) that were not acceptable for TV 10 to 15 years ago would easily pass the censors now. There should be some way to re-edit these movies so a new generation can enjoy those great scenes on TV!
