You're thinking of two different V/A compilations from the classic K-tel label. I have them both... :)

Starflight is from 1979, and the U.S. version included such then-hits as "Sad Eyes" by Robert John, "I Want You to Want Me" by Cheap Trick, "When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman" by Dr. Hook, "Pop Muzik" by M, and "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb, among others. The cover featured a comet shooting through space, w/ a rainbow-colored tail trailing it...

Heartbeat of the 80's is from 1983, and the U.S. version featured such soft-rock hits of the early '80s as "Truly" by Lionel Richie, "You and I" by Eddie Rabbitt & Crystal Gayle, "Just Once" by Quincy Jones featuring James Ingram, "Together" by Tierra, and "Heartbreaker" by Dionne Warwick, among others. The cover showed a drawing of a woman w/ long, flowing hair, and a seashell in her hand...

Both compilations were released in all three formats: vinyl LP, cassette, and 8-track. Unfortunately, they're both long out-of-print...

I have both titles on cassette and 8-track. :) I believe I have extras of Starflight in both formats, but not Heartbeat of the 80's (that one is much harder to find, as by 1983, K-tel was on the verge of bankruptcy, and their albums weren't selling in the nos. that they had been in the mid to late '70s, when the label was at its peak). I do see copies of both titles up for auction on eBay occasionally...
