Subject: Favorite "Soaps"
With all the ladies here I hoped it would be "Safe" to bring up this topic :) What were or are your favorites? They can be from the past to the present, I only place this topic here because the 80's are when......I became a Soap Opera Addict :-I feel so much better now! and to all the other guys out there, It got me into the girls dorms at college...oh what fun!... So Now, as always, it's your turn ;)

Days of our Lives was my favorite. Patch and Kayla were my favorite couple..loved it. ;D
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
I watched almost all at one time or another.
First it was General Hospital
Than it was Days, AW
Than It was Y&R, BnB,GL
Now I watch GL about once a week. Sometimes I catch a peek at Days. But all in all they have all gotten too silly! :P
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
I went against the crowd and watched "Guiding Light". Since it was on at the same time as General Hospital, I never watched it with friends. It was good quality time spent with my mom, though (it was one of her favorites, too).
Other than that, I could never get into daytime soaps. But some of the nighttime ones, like ER, will always get me to tune in.

Days of our lives,General Hospital, and sometimes I would watch one life to live to see tina and cord, Ok it was more then sometimes but it was nothing like Days of our lives! :) :)

Days was such a big favorite in my dorm back in '89...geez, seemed like just as many guys as girls were into it...it's scary when guys are scheduling college classes around a daytime soap :-).

"Santa Barbara" was my favorite in the '80s, although I also watched "As The World Turns" and "Guiding Light." Even though SB is no longer on the air, I still watch ATWT and GL. I used to watch DOOL, but I think it's the worst show on the air. I also got into "Another World," but it's cancelled. I was also a fan of "One Life To Live," but that's on at the same time as ATWT, so I watch ATWT.

I think I've watched all of the soaps, at one time or another! I've watched Young & Restless ever since I can remember. I used to watch Search For Tomorrow and The Edge of Night, before they were cancelled. I remember when Santa Barbara debuted in 1984. One Life to Live was fun in the 80s, I can even remember the words to the old theme song! :)

I haven't tuned in to a "soap" for a week now. I like "All My Children" because you never know what is going to happen. Somtimes I flip back and forth to "Days Of Our Lives" and "All My cHildren".
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
My faves were:
Santa Barbara
Days Of Our Lives
Another World
I was sad to see SB and AW go. It seems all soaps were best in the 80's. In the 90's, the stories died down, then actors where replaced excessively and then people stopped watching. I stopped watching.
I tuned-in not too long ago to see how the one surviving one from my list was doing...
All soaps nowadays, in general, are really just too much. I can't take them.

I never miss Port Charles now...at first you could have NOT paid to watch it...but now it had turned into a Dark Shadows type story.
And I also watch All My Children..and One Life to Live...but not everyday....only when something good it gonna happen....if I watched it everyday..I would just be bored....how many days does it take to find out that your mother is not your mother...only you aunts niece turned sister..twice divorced brothers sisters baby....and if that makes sense to you...then you are a better soap watcher than me!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;)

My mother watched "Days of our Lives", "The Doctors" and "General Hospital" when I was a a child, so I absorbed a bit of them. But the only soap I ever watched myself was "Dark Shadows." And I missed a lot of episodes in 1970 when it was on opposite "Now Explosion." ;)
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
I haven't watched the soaps since "Another World" went off the air and "DOOL" went to seed. :'(/>:(
The ironic thing is that AW was gone the same year Mom died. Those two were her favorites and she started watching AW as soon as she came to the States. :'(

I used to never miss all of the All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. But now the only one that I watch on a regular basis is Port Charles. If I am home and awake during the day, I might watch AMC or OLTL but not on a regular basis. I think that you could probably stop watching for weeks and then tune back in and be able to pick right up in the same storyline. Everything seems to drag on and on these days.

My mom was addicted to Dallas and Dynasty when they were first broadcast. There were some re-runs a few years back, and she got me hooked on it for a while!
For me now, I only watch one British soap, which is Eastenders - and lately, I haven't really had the time to catch up with even that! :)

I remember WAAAAYY back when you could ONLY find weekly updates in the newspaper (If you were lucky), and now you just need to pop on-line to get "Daily" up-dates

And that's one of the reasons that I don't watch as regularly as I used to years ago. I can just go to one of the several soap websites and take a few minutes to read what happened that day with having to have spent 3 or 4 hours watching them.
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
I watched Another World religiously and Knot's Landing as well...I mean how could I not? Donna Mills and Nicollette Sheridan...mmmmmmmmm....
Subject: Re: Favorite "Soaps"
I used to love Days Of Our Lives and The Young and The Restless.....for nighttime soaps it would have to be Knots Landing.
Nowadays, I don't care for soaps at all.

I was a huge DOOL fan from 1984 onward - but dont laugh - it was up to 6 or 7 years behind the US here so I started watching it just before Roman met Marlena and the Salem Strangler was busy at work.
I taped it every day till last year sometime when I got a bit bored with the entire population of Salen being in Paris. Its still at least 7 years behind and the way the kids grow so quick - the babys I am watching are probably married by now ! You know - like when Sammy went off at age 6 to live with granma - and came back 2 years later aged 15. Where do you get pills that do that ??????????
