Subject: what did ya wanna be when you grow up??

Written By: pokey on 04/29/02 at 08:39 p.m.

;) simple question! I wanted to be alot of things. I never really thought hard about it until 1985. I quit school, and went to work with my father. He was an agent for Sears Canada Inc. and Radio Shack. and had his own business of appliance/tv/refridgeration repair. I loved everything i did there.
For personal reasons we had to shut down :-[ I really missed it.......i was very good at it and was employed for 7 and 3/4 years with him. He still is doing the same thing today. As for me i have changed jobs here and there and here and there:
same old, same old. I still don't know what i would like to do!!

i think i wanted to be just about everything at wome point when i was a kid.  teacher, scientist, lawyer, you name it.  i never thought of it until now, but since i wanted to be everything, i guess i wanted to be a jack-of-all-trades.  just kidding.  actually, if i had the money, i'd take my philosophy degree and either further that or go to law school.

Anything but a grown-up! And I think I've succeeded rather well. (Although I can counterfeit "grown-upness" reasonably well when absolutely neccessary)   :D

I am doing what I've always wanted to do since I was a young child... writing! That's the only thing I've ever truly wanted to be in life- a published author. I was an Elementary Spanish teacher for a number of years, but now I'm writing full-time and loving it!!!  :)

I always wanted to be an astronaut, and I always knew so much about space, so Challenger was really hard for me. I also wanted to be a comedian, a scientist, you know all those cool '80s jobs.

After I came to my full vampire powers, I was gonna run away and be a horseback rider in the circus.

Now I'll settle for a decent bartending job in a couple of months.

When I grow up I want to be Peter Pan with benifets.  I could fly and get some.

Cyndi Lauper's hairdresser.

Actually, when I was a wee child I dreamed of being a professional soccer star in Europe.  When I was a bit older, I wanted to be a sports broadcaster.  Ironically, I've actually achieved the latter goal briefly (I was an anchor/reporter for a sports show that aired locally on ESPN2), but I wouldn't say I've grown up :-).

I always wanted to be a teacher.  My mom left my stepdad just after I graduated high school, so I was kinda forced out on my own.  Now I am Quality Control Director in a data entry company.  I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world.

From the time I was 9 years old and got a radio, and heard the DJ talking, that's all I ever wanted to do.  Went to Broadcasting School, got the best grades there that I ever got in my life.  Got certified, took a second year for an Associates degree, but when I realized it was focusing solely on management, and that they were teaching me all the same stuff I'd been learning for 4 years of HS, I dropped out.  Worked in radio for a number of years till I got married and had kids, and realized that with jobs getting harder and harder to find because of Satellite feeds, and pay being bad unless you got a good market, you couldn't raise a family.  So I dropped it in favor of reality.  Reality bites.

When I was little, I wanted to be a writer but instead, I wound up studying to become an insurance biller. Now though, I'm thinking of working for 911 dispatch because they make a lot of money.

It's always been the same for me. When I was little I wanted to be a dancer and a singer and a writer. Somethings never change do they! ;) ;) ;)

As a small child in the '70's I wanted to be either a veterinarian or a rock star.  I gave up both ideas when I found out I'd also have to deal with cleaning up the animal's "messes", and I can't sing for sh**.

As the '80's began, I decided I liked the idea of being a costume designer for the movies and rock stars--I'd still be working for the music industry, and it seemed to fit in with what was going on in real life.  (No matter what I did, I couldn't seem to put together a perfectly fashionable outfit.  There was always at least one 'goofy' item.  If I tried to be goofy on purpose, and get paid for it.... ;)

I also got into comic books at that point, and also liked the idea of being a colorist.  (How hard could it be to remember that Superman's trunks and cape were red, and his shirt and leggings were blue?)  I found out the hard way that that is even harder to break into (and make money at) than being the rock star.

Now I am an accounting assistant for a company that works in the restaurant and beverage industry.  I never pictured myself as being a "beancounter", but the pay is decent, there is no dress code ("we don't care what you wear, as long as you're wearing something") and I can still work on costume designing (albeit as a hobby now).

I wanted to paint pub signs when I was younger.(the ones in the U.K have a picture which is the same on both sides).I also toyed with  the idea of restoring paintings, but having done art at college I left was unemployed then started working in the book trade which ended up with me working in the University library in Oxford and here I've stayed.......

;D When I was growing up I wanted to be a Professional Baseball player, an Astronaut, and a Vetranarian. Well, It didn't work out that way.  Through my teenage years my ambitions turned into just wanting to party and party hard I did. So after years of partying and going from job to job I finally decided to do something with my life. I went to the Computer Learning Center here in Philly in 1990 and I've been with the same Data Processing Company since. I am now a Production Control Analyst. I love it. ;D
