Hey! I want in on this one too. This is the other thread I remember. I remember I made a list that I was proud of before it got deleted and this was the one. One can pretty much sum up what I like as that which came in the years 1979 until 1984 (maybe mid-1985): yeah, all that synth junk that most would now term as "New Wave" (although I have some problems with certain bands being labeled thus). This synthesizer bunny was/is a regular square peg and is and has been for a lon time "New Wave all the way!" (I even like the French film movement that went under that banner as well).
The Smiths
The Cure
Depeche Mode
The Assembly, Yazoo, and Erasure
Joy Division and New Order

Thanks Tarzan Boy - you too :)
Am glad to see a lot of people liking the Smiths also. How fantastic is their music? Ok some of it's a bit depressing, but nevertheless, 99% of it is simply excellent. Am still deliberating on whether to claim that they are my favourite band ever ;)

I used to think that, but then I found the extended version of "Shake The Disease," "See You," and "Fools." For a moment, I thought DeMode was going to rule the world, but New Order came out with their Substance double CD set in 1987, as well as their 1989 follow-up, Technique. Maybe I'm talking apples and oranges here since The Smiths are an alterno-Rock band and these two are Synthpop. Oh, what the hay, ALL three bands are the best that ever lived :)
