Subject: Kylie Minogue
Written By: 80sTrivia on 02/02/02 at 06:47 p.m.
Does anyone else like Aussie songstress and former child star of the Australian soap Neighbours, Kylie Minogue? I've been (secretly) a fan of hers since the 80s and I have her self-titled debut album on cassette, which I purchased in 1987. She's best known in the States for her Top 5 hit from 1988, a remake of "The Locomotion". Of course, she's a major superstar throughout Europe, Japan and in her native Australia, and she's had more than twenty Top 10 hits. She finally has a hit song in the States with "Can't Get You Out of My Head", after a thirteen year absence from the American pop scene. Now I know most Americans have absolutely no idea who she is, but they will now, especially after viewing the eye-catching video for "Can't Get You Out of My Head", with Kylie wearing a hooded white blouse cut all the way down to her... ankles!!! :o Anyone else secret or out fans of Kylie?

Heard some Kylie songs when I was in Ireland 14 months ago.
She has some good dance tunes. The new song is good, but the 'na na na na...na na na na na...' gets really old.
What I don't get is how she's a huge sex symbol. I don't think she's that attractive...she's kinda got that alien, deformed-head look goin' on.

OK - try as I might I can't see the deformed head thing ? www.kylie.com She is just a tinily built woman - she is only 5 foot 2.
I have a friend who is so like Kyles in looks and build that she is stopped in nightclubs and asked for autographs and nobody has ever mentioned a deformed head to her.
As someone who is the same age as her and has basically been watching her on various TV shows since she was 10, I have to admit - it took till the late 90's before I was prepared to admit I liked her songs. She doesn't pretend to be singing stuff that will change the world - she is having fun. Good on her.
She is her own person - and at 34 still looks 20 thru good genes - at 50 she will probably look 30. At least she hasnt felt the need to ruin herself with 5 years of plastic surgery "enhancement" like her baby sister Danni. By the time Danni hits 35 she will look like Joan Collins - stretched within and inch of her life.
yes 80'sTivia - the famous "snood dress" is quite gravity defying isnt it. I have a feeling double sided tape has been put to very good use !!

I've never been a fan of Kylie's sister, Danni's music. I just never felt that she was as talented as Kylie and that she was just riding on Big Sis' glittery coat tails. As far as her plastic surgery goes, it hasn't made her look as good as Kylie, who I think is quite beautiful, myself!!! ;D

I liked "Locomotion". And she's a babe. Other than that, I don't know anything about her.

Kylie hasn't been off for long in the music scene in England. Her latest song was no1 on the charts for many weeks, last years smash hit. Kylie was my idol when i was 5, and its really strange to see how my little 5 year old cousin idolises her now! In my eyes, Kylie is fantastic, she's pretty and makes good pop songs. I'm not into a lot of pop music, but I enjoy her stuff. She's also prooved that she doesn't need SAW to make her a great pop star. :)

She also had another good song from the 80's called I Should Be So Lucky, but it didn't compare to The Locomotion.

Coming from her homeland, frankly, it was a relief to see her head off and spend most of her time in Britain (sorry Bobo, you've got her now).
She has been well-known here since being a child actress in a number of things, and shot to fame playing Charlene in the (still-running) soap, Neighbours. Basically her character was a snide smart-mouthed respectful of nobody schoolgirl who of course took the natural career path when leaving school of becoming a mechanic.
Kylie was one of the many that left Neighbours when she decided it may be better to become an instant pop star - around that time it was the trend for any Aussie soap star who'd been on Neighbours to go to Britain and become an overnight sensation.
To name a few :
Kylie
Jason Donovan
Guy Pearce (who has appeared in the movies LA Confidential, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert (as a drag queen) amongst others)
Craig McLachlan
Natalie Imbruglia (of Torn fame)
You get the idea...
80sTrivia - these are of course only my thoughts - as you can tell I am not really a Kylie fan, mostly because I feel that she is a prime example of what a well-oiled publicity machine can do for someone who was at least at the time only mildly talented.
Mind you good luck to her, and at least she can sing which is more than I could claim to do ! Her more recent songs are getting better....
A final note on publicity : Kylie's long spell as Michael Hutchence's (late of INXS) girlfriend has to be the most unlikely pairing of any two people I have ever seen. I can understand it made her 'cooler' in a lot of people's eyes, but I will NEVER understand what was in it for him. Unless......

I note in today's news that Kyles' bod was voted the best by some poll in Britain.

Hmmm - maybe Michael Hutchence wasn't interested in her musical abilities after all....
