Subject: Old Rockers That Made Comebacks In The 80s

Written By: Indy Gent on 01/18/02 at 05:29 p.m.

There were several rockers from the 60s and 70s that made comebacks in the 80s. Here are some of them:
Robert Plant
The Kinks
Roy Orbison
Olivia Newton-John
Barbra Streisand (if you can call it a comeback)
Gary U.S. Bonds
Tina Turner
What else?

Don Henley/The Eagles (actually, wasn't that the 90's?????)
Pink Floyd
Paul Simon.  He actually made a comebackagain recently....being nominated for a Grammy.  I forget what other singer/band made a comeback recently (besides Santana).  Whoever it was also got nominated.

Actually, I don't think I have a clue what I'm talking about....all of those years seem to run together for me.  A lot of 70s groups maintained and then had like one CD come out mid-80s, but I don't know if I'd consier it a "comeback".

I might say Cher, but she didn't get really popular again until the 90s.

Actually, she DID have a comeback in the 80's with a string of hits that went into the early 1990's.

Some are:

"I Found Someone"
"We All Sleep Alone"
"It's In His Kiss"
"If I Could Turn Back Time"
"Love And Understanding"
"Just Like Jesse James"

I think that it is amazing that Aerosmith are still surviving today, what with all these bands coming and going once every month, one hit/two hit wonders, with brilliant number ones vanishing into the distance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all their stuff (mainly the later songs) but with new artists being discovered/manufactured, it is good to see a band like Aerosmith last so long that they can appear on an episode of The Simpsons (Flaming Moe's, right)?

Dire Straits and Chicago...although the latter were pretty prevalent in the 70's.   :)

Mark Knopfler's reputation did him good when appearing live in 1983 with the Everly Brothers just before their Albert Hall concert, to record Why Worry Now. I'm just wondering though, because he wrote it, presumably as part of the Straits, and then The Everly's recorded it later. Is that right? Any info would be welcome

I remember going to an Aerosmith concert in the late 80's with my neice, and her other, older uncle (who was old enough to remember when Aerosmith was new).  There was a pack of 12 year old girls in front of us, and one was bragging about how she had both of Aerosmith's albums. :P

We couldn't decide whether to burst her bubble and tell her the truth, or let her find out on her own.  We had a really good laugh, and I learned not to assume I was a "know-it-all" just because none of my friends had heard about a band I liked.   ;)
