Subject: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
Inspired by another cereal thread:
Back in the 80's cereal was sooo much better than the crap they sell today. If people didn't want their kids eating too much sugar that's their problem, they didn't have to ruin it for the rest of us. Nothing but nothing could beat Saturday morning cartoons and a bowl of Super SUGAR Crisp. Now it's Super GOLDEN Crisp and they ALL taste like styrofoam. You can't get a decent cake, cupcake, brownie, ice cream, or cereal anymore.
Sorry, I've been wanting to rant about that for a long time!! ;D

"Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs".
That's all that has to be said, really ;)

Cereal wise, I never grew up at all, and will never subject my children to the dreaded cardboard cereals.
It's sugar sweetened goodness to the max for me! I religiously still buy Boo Berry, Count Chocula and Frankenberry, as well as Cap'n Crnch Crunch Berries, Peanut Butter Crunch, and Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles all the way!

Cap'n Crnch Crunch Berries.....'nuff said.
Subject: Re: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
I still buy the kids cereals, too. But some of my favorites have been changed a bit and now I avoid them. Like Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles (what are those blue things? blech!), and Fruit Loops (again with the blue things!!)
Oops! All Berries is good, though! :)
Subject: Re: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
Boo Berry, Frank-n-Berry and Count Chockula!!! ;D
I also loved Quisp and the Freakies!!! I even ate Smurfberry Crunch and the Mr. T cereal!!! I guess you could say that I was a breakfast cereal connosieur, BITD. ;)
Subject: Re: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
My brother and I used to love Golden Nuggets then they withdrew them cos they were rotting kids teeth or something :(.I know they have rereleased them now but they just aren't the same SIGH
Subject: Re: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
In the 80's, the cereals were just fine. The few that are sugar-types left on this planet have been corrupted with extra food coloring - ergo - blue fruity pebbles, blue froot loops, green crunch berries, lucky charm's new charms, etc.
Oh, O'! Changing the subject for just a tad...
Anyone's seen the new GREEN Ketchup? How about the SHOCKING PINK squeezable margarine? It comes in ELECTRIC BLUE too. Instant oatmeal with every color on the rainbow, poptarts that defy the color spectrum, trix yogurt....
Marketing must think that our kids find these products more appealing because of the color. Color additives are not uncommon. But Geez!!!!! They have gotten carried away! Too much of anything is not good for you (or your kids).
I wouldn't buy any of the afore mentioned products because it's simply too much. Kinda yuck, when you think about it. All that food dye!
OK. I'm done. ;D

In general, I don't use Ketchup - I prefer vinegar on my fries - but my 7 year old son begged me to buy the green stuff for him so I did and I don't even know why I tried it, but I did and I was surprised to discover that I liked it! So, every once in a while, I'll join my son in a side of green-covered fries. It's not that bad, really!

From what I understand, it's supposed to be the same exact thing as regular ketchup, just green colored. So, maybe you discovered a likeness for ketchup, in general! Unless - you had regular ketchup before and noticed a significant difference. In which case I'll just remain baffled. ;)

Apparently Heinz are going to do purple next!! I found it weird they chose green cos what is the one thing children never want to eat ?? their greens of course!!
Subject: Re: Cereal killers (breakfast cereal)
Sugary cereals... well I had Lucky Charms a fair bit, and Smurf Berry Crunch to eat on Saturday mornings while I watched the Smurfs. But all and all I didn't have a ton; usually I ate a lot of rice chex, which I still love. Nowadays I tend to eat more of the healthier cereals like Total, though I've been eating more Smart Start lately cause I like the nut clusters. (Which reminds me, anyone remember the cool Cluster's commercials with the squirrel that would get into absolutely everything?)

Yeah, I saw a study about this on some news program or something just a few days ago. Apparently while many kids hate to eat their vegatables, they still love the color green so it doesn't bother them to eat green food. Main thing I'm wondering is, if it's green then how do you know when it's gone bad (not that ketchup is really known for going bad...)?

Nope! I really never much cared for ketchup...which leads me to believe that it's a psychological thing. I'm baffled, too!

It is exactly the same..however I can not bring myself to eat it and I am a ketchup freak,I eat it on almost all meats and fried foods...I tried the green ketchup once and it took me awhile to convince myself to do it and even though it taste the same I can't eat green ketchup it...it looks nasty and I haven't come across a kid yet that will eat it.

Hmmm, they need to make a Crystal Ketchup :)... or at least come out with Crystal Gravy like the old SNL commercial. :)

The purple ketchup is out. It is only food coloring, but it's hard to look at, making it hard (for me) to eat. But as far as the colored margarine, if it gets my finicky eater to actually eat some vegetables, I don't care what color it is. ::)

they're sneaky buggers.. I think they've been fooling with the messageboard software, trying to surpress knowledge of the penguin revolt of 1984...

Smurf Berry Crunch! I loved that stuff! I remember eating it while watching the Smurfs too. (as an aside, I had a friend who played in a metal band, and they always opened up their practice sessions by doing a metal version of the Smurfs theme music)
And I remember the Clusters commercials, I always loved that squirrel, and how he'd always do that giggling laugh while getting away with the cereal...
