Subject: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
Since we're currently talking about the WORST 80's fashions we wore, let's also give mention to the BEST... that one article of clothing you wish you'd kept.
Mine was an acid wash dark blue denim mini skirt (and I mean mini as in "duck dress"... bend over, see quack). It had a zipper on the side that ran from the top to 3/4 of the way down the skirt, and was used for getting into and out of it. It also had a zipper on the front that ran from the bottom to 3/4 of the way UP the skirt. I don't know what that was for. ::)

I would have liked to kept an old stonewashed jean jacket from junior high. I don't know if everyone did this, but we used to have girls sign the back . It would be amusing to look at it now and see all the names from the past. I would also have lied to have kept my high school hockey sweater, I think I'm the only one who actually gave them back at the end of the year. Finally I had a nice wine color Sergio Valente (sp) leather jacket that I really liked

We have uniforms in England, but on on last day of school, we get everyone to sign our shirts. I only finished senior school last year - but its great to have something there from all your friends from school!
I kinda didn't wear any of the fashions in the 80's, as im only 17, apart from childrens clothes ( eg little ra-ra skirts! ) But, if i did live back then, i would be wearing anything made from lace - the whole early madonna thing was so cool IMO! Latley, 'cause of the 80's revival, i have bought some really cool lace bits and bobs, was actually very close to buying a stone-washed denim mini-skirt yesterday! :)

I used to love my black leather skinny tie! I wore it with a lot of different outfits, thinking I was so very b*i*t*c*h*in while wearing it... ::) And my black and white checkerboard Vans. I thought I was the cat's meow when donnin' my Vans!!! ;D

I had an old jean jacket that I just loved. I wore it all the time and my mom hated it. When the news filmed my government class watching the space shuttle take off (the first one after the Challenger disaster), my mom saw it on tv and said "I found you by seeing the d*a*m*n jacket." Not too long after that it 'disappeared'. My mom says she has no idea where it went. I don't believe her. :)

My fedora hat (a la Duran Duran). ;)
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
I had (have) a yellow fedora that was more Bowie ala Serious Moonlight.
I had - well the whole hot pink thing going - didnt matter what the article of clothing was - as long as it was hot pink.
As late as 88 I had B/W animal print pants - the kind that were shaped like a triangle - you know - a tonne of extra material around the thighs - then tapering to skin tight around the ankles.
I had a black waistcoat covered in badges - and I still have all the badges in my fancy dress box ! Ya never know when they will come in handy.
My all time favourite T Shirt was a big baggy white one and it had "I DONT GIVE A F*** WHAT FRANKIE SAYS" in huge letters down the front (like GO GO huge !!!!) and the u and the c and the k were not replaced by stars !!! Now did I do that well enough to get it thru the censor !! All my friends were Frankie fans so I drove them nuts wearing it constantly !!

You know what else I liked?
I liked jeans with patches all over them.
There could be patches of any kind. They could be all one theme or many themes. The patches could be all the same cut or many different cuts. That style was in for a short stint in 85-86.
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
My favorite was a pair of jeans that were striped on the front and just regular jean on the back..i thought they were so cool!!! ;D

ooooooh......I LOVED jeans with patches. Used to have some with patches of bright denim all over them (unfortunately, they were neon patches)
I also miss "Units". They were kind of dorky, but I was really into the whole mix-n-match this T with that stretchy belt, and layering with different colors, oh...and matching socks, and.......wait, I'm getting a little excited.

A pair of mine had all different animal print patches.
I also had the "DON'T STOP" jeans. Remember those?
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
I don't remember "DON'T STOP", but I do remember "Skidz" (had a little road sign on them...maybe they were early 90s). ĘThey were plaid pajama-looking pants. ĘRemember the "Coca-Cola" rugby shirts ('87 or '88 )? ĘThey were all the rage.

The "DON'T STOP" was printed inside a Stop Sign (back pocket). I had a lot of Coca-Cola wear too.

<-----this is it right here! I still have it! My 50s-ish lime green pouf petticoat! It was awesome to wear under a skirt.. or wearing it alone by itself made a fun skirt! This is just one of many of these kinds of skirts that I had back then and STILL have today!

What did your girlfriend think of the fact that you like to wear women's clothes?
I hope this is not prying too, too much.

My worst would also probably be my favorite and best -- my slashed up jeans.

I had a pair of black jeans that fitted perfectly and were even more cool when they ripped at the back and my bum used to show !!(not that my Dad approved!) I loved a particular Faster Pussycat t-shirt too. Some stuff I still have especially footwear.I have a pair of burgandy cowboy boots I'll keep for ever even if I haven't worn them for years!
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
just remembered I also had this pair of white shoes I loved I wore them until they feel to bits :(
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
My Vans sneakers. I never had the checkerboard ones, just the low-top canvas laceups in solid colors (also had them in suede leather in the late 80's) and the hightops. I ordered a low-top pair last year. Still in good shape.

:D Hey everyone my favorite 80;s Accessory was Jordache purses. You know the little leather pouch purses. Do you remember these. I'm actually in search of several for a flashback party if anyone knows where I can purchase some.
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
My favorite was a pair of low-heeled granny boots, lacing halfway up the calf, and in black leather. I still have them, and have had them re-heeled, re-soled and small tears stitched over and over again. I have also replaced the laces more times than I can count. I know there are still granny boots out there, but they all have high heels (for me. I can't wear anything higher than 3/4 inch).
I also had a pair of black acid washed jeans with a black leather yoke in front. Lots of neon colored campshirts. And all my rubber bracelets, black and neon-colors. ;D
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
That would probably be any of my Jordache jeans (you know, when they actually had the horse on the front pocket). They were my favorite type of jeans...I wish they'd bring them back! :(
Oh yeah, I also used to get these corduroy pants from Petite Street (now known as 5-7-9). The brand was called "Derriere". They fit so snug, I loved them too!
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
Man...does anyone remember LA Gear? I had tons of that stuff to wear. My favorite article of clothing from the LA Gear line was a pair of LA Gear jeans with the sides cut out of them only to be replaced with pink twisted strips of cloth. My mom had to peel those off of me to wash them. I thought they were so sexy because you could see my underwear on the sides.

Yes, I remember them well! I had a purple one. Actually, it was more like a maroon color. I loved that purse. I remember searching for them on the internet a year or so ago, with no luck :(
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
One of the most unforgettable articles of clothing in the '80s had to be underwear! Polka dots, stripes, neon colors, animal prints (back in style), buckles, straps, etc.
The movies of the time really showed them well. For some examples, watch Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Valley Girl, or Private School. ;D
Subject: Re: Your Favorite Article of 80's Clothing
I didn't get much into the 80s dressing style, though I did own a couple of the shirts with the little animal on it, like Le Tigre (Hold that tiger!). I never was much into jeans so I skipped the acid washed, ripped up, shotgunned look. I thought parachute pants were interesting mainly cause of the amount of pockets, etc. My brother did have a white sports coat (ala Don Johnson in Miami Vice) which I would wear from time to time at high school football games (with pair of black slacks and a blue shirt, I had all my school's colours ;P)

8) My favorite "ensemble" was: blue, acid-washed "stretchy" jeans with matching jean jacket, a rock T-shirt of some kind and black, heeled granny boots and my black leather pouch purse that absolutely bulged with hair and makeup products. I also had this army-green, long-sleeved top with a very loose turtle neck and a black lacey/meshy "vest" that fit over top of it and it looked great with the wide, black, leather belt with the huge buckle that was worn around the hips - very Madonna-ish (or at least that's how I felt - LOL).

I... in fact still have and wear acid wash Jordache jeans ( I am male, imagine how hard those are/were to get)
I also still in fact order 12 pairs at a time Men's Jordache regular cut(tight at the legs/ankles) jeans and pay dearly for them by mail. I wouldnt or couldnt imagine wearing anything else since I have been comfortable in them for over 20 years now. If they die, I think I would too.
As a male, I still use hair spray, and yes, have kept all my hair from the 80's in fact, not tooo long though.
T shirts are still my normal dress with my Jordaches, but can no longer get any high top Reeboks to go with them, have resorted to Elk Woods boots/shoes, sorta high top you know. Still don't tie the laces even most of the time.
At this moment I am sitting at midnight on a Friday night listening to my El Debarge CD that after many attempts to buy on ebay, I finally got for 70 bucks, and listening to my fav 80's station on Friday and saturday nights.
I miss the 80's more than anyone these days, and since my 20 year reunion all I could think of is if I could have one more chance to go back, that is where I would go and stay.
If I knew then what I knew now. I would be the happiest person in the world, if I could have stayed in the 80's.
Bring em back, and I'll never give up my Jordache's, even if I have to drive across the country to get them.

JAMS, they were shorts that were so popular in the mid 80s.
Here's a good description of them:
Dude! Like, throw on your JAMS and let’s go catch a gnarly wave. Originally marketed for the surf set from Surfline Hawaii, these crazy print board shorts became all the rage in the explosion of color known as the 80's.
The popularity of Californias Venice beach scene and of the television drama of Florida’s Miami Vice spawned a national obsession with the carefree surf life. Oversized board shorts splashed with crazy colors and patterns, JAMS were cool on and off the beach. More than shorts, less than pants, the name JAMS (a registered trademark) caught a wave and became the tag for any wacky print shorts of length. Boys and girls alike competed to find the most outrageous patterns, as makers like Op, Gotcha and Jimmy’Z went absolutely nutty with color. Labels still mattered, of course, but with a pair of JAMS, anyone could ride out in fashion.

As you can tell - my favourite would be shoe laces that your wore in your hair (they usually had little love hearts on them or the words love or something). I also loved my Go-Go shirt (in fluro green) and fluro socks.

I did this in junior high school also. Instead of a jacket, I used a plain white t-shirt which I had everyone I knew sign it. It was in our final year before starting high school. I wonder what happened to it ? ???

no matter what colour you were wearing you had to wear white shoes. You could be wearing all black with black stockings and still wear white shoes.

I don't think I saw that trend here in the States, but maybe some of the females out there know about it...
My friend is having a Birthday Party on Saturday night and a big group of us are going to go do Extreme Bowling(the establishment turns the lights out and they light up the lanes), I might have to convince someone to try that out Saturday night. It would be kinda of cool after a few drinks too. ;)

I always liked any patchwork clothes, and clothes with more pockets than necessary. I had a bunch of jeans with tons of pockets, and I still have this patchwork shirt that I love. Also I liked the jams. My mom made me a lot of jams. She would take me to the fabric store and Id pick out the wackiest patterns I could find, and I liked it because Id sometimes have cooler patterns than some other guys had. I still have some of them too.

I had the coolest hot pink neon cropped sweatshirt, with cutoff sleeves...it was soooooo Flashdance! It had this puffy purple swirly thing on the front. Neon was very much the thing back then!
There are so many cool things I wore back then that I wish I still had! Just thinking about that sweatshirt reminds me of driving down the shore in the summer of '83 with my friends!!!

I am so-o bad. I still have most of my fav 80s clothes, there in a memory box, but I still have them. Lessee, skinny neon pink tie, over sized Ocean Pacific Hawaiian style shirt that I wore on rainy days, local radio shirts, oversized shirt with lots of little things printed on it, STOP t-shirt, I miss my parachute pants but I still have a pair of white i think they would call them cargo pants, this big corduroy cowl-neck tunic thing, Chinatown New York City t-shirt from 1980, got the acid washed jeans,as well as a regular pair that I had the legs taken (late 70s sales rack, yum) got the Coke Cola bags, of course my jean vest with all the buttons and lapel pins (it currently is a all purpose place for all my pins), the floating heart charm, lost all my rock band tees :( My current fav is my boyfriends fleecy jean jacket. Oh and my flannels shirts. I wish I'd kept those. My favorite outfit mid 80s a big purple with black on the sides Bronski Beat looking shirt with the white cargoes. C'mon that's ten years worth of clothes, I couldn't chose just one.

My favorite 80s outfit was a pair of skin tight Guess Jeans, a gigantic white Esprit bouse, and a pair of super tall cobalt blue Mia pumps. With my aesymetrically cut jet black hair and a serious black eyeliner, I was the hit of the juice bars on Rush Street in Chicago.

My Braxton Jeans (not sure if they were a regional product or not) they were inexpensive and they made your butt look really good ;D
My purple sweater minidress with the BIG fold down collar, shoulder pads, a belt and worn with my 4inch grey slouch boots!! Sort of my standard going out outfit.
My grey Generra pants that were baggy in the hips but tapered
My plain white Nikes with the one swoosh on the side (red)
sometimes called cheerleader shoes. Mine got stolen right after I got them and I never got a chance to replace them. I did however buy myself some the other day with a blue swoosh. Just like I remembered them. :)
