Subject: Age Range
When I come to this site, I wonder how old are the viewers that come here. And if they remember the 80s or not Well? Starting with me I'm 18 and I remember 86 and up. YOUR TURN
Subject: Re: Age Range
30 years old, and definately remember the 80's. ;D
Subject: Re: Age Range
Im 38 and REALLY remember the 80s... I was 16 when they started and 26 when they ended... Lets see.. first girlfriend, lost virginity, first heartbreak, prom, graduated high school, college, first fiance, first wife, first divorce..hmm...Definitely over all still the best years of my life!
Subject: Re: Age Range
32 this month. I was 10 when they started, 20 when they ended. I literally lived my entire formative years in the 80's, and have never experienced anything to match those years. God, I miss those days...

Subject: Re: Age Range
I'm 15. I don't remember anything that happened to me in the 80's, but I figured that by listening to music, and catching up on some of the culture and fads of the period after 1991 has really helped in my understanding of the 80's as a decade, rather than as a label. As a label, I listen to too much 80's music than is good for me, I've got loads of 80's compilation CD's, and CD's by some of the most important, and unknown bands of the 80's. Some 80's bands continued to make 80's music well into the 90's though, and I've bought most of those CD's if they are by artists that I like.
Subject: Re: Age Range
I'm 27 and driving my friends insane as I have been listening to 80's music for about 7 years now. I'll be playing my own collection of 80's CD's (about 20 CDs) in my truck, living room, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, garage) But deep down inside I believe they enjoy it. ;D ;D ;D
Subject: Re: Age Range
Loudly I'll bet. That's a good thing. They'll like it eventually.
Subject: Re: Age Range
Turned 30 ( :-/ ) this past November...I'd say I remember at least most of the 80's..
Subject: Re: Age Range
I'll be 22 on the 19th. I do remember parts of the eighties but I have a really bad memory, so bad that I even forget things I've said a few minutes earlier. Thank goodness that doesn't happen all the time ::).

Of course, what I meant to say is that I'm 28. And I remember the early 80's from a child's point of view, and the later 80's as an adolescent. I had most of my firsts (and a few of my lasts) in that decade!

Hahaha. When people ask me how old/young I am, the only response I give is "sin cuenta". For those that know Spanish, the pun is obvious, but for the rest sin cuenta means "without count" (kind of like saying "countless" in English), but it also sounds like "cincuenta" which means "fifty". Ha! I'm much older than all of you! Somehow I think I will outlive you all though - a sort of modern-day Dorian Gray ;)

Okay, this has now been opened up. I'm sure this would better be suited to a private post, but I want to back down quickly if I'm the lone bitter old woman.
Think. Think before you type. You are fifteen years old and don't have the with nor wisdom to be this much of a smarta$$. Shouldn't you be practicing or in school or taking your Ritalin or something? I was a proponent of yours and I've watched you steadily move from amusing to aggressively annoying. Now publicly insulting, so I feel I have the right to publicly respond. Step off, little one. Mouthy boys are boring. Half conceived snide comments are pathetic. Your disrespect is reprehensible. I ask not so subtly now for you at least to keep the personal references at a minimum.
Or in words you might understand more fully, bite me.

Langdon:
You are NOT old, you are NOT bitter (I happen to find your wit and sarcasm refreshing), and you are definitely NOT alone on this one. It happens in life that a situation gets to a point where some things just need to be said.
Bobo:
Perhaps you have heard of the straw that broke the camel's back. Around here, saying something boneheaded enough to actually pi$$ off langdon hughes is pretty much it. Or maybe you would better understand "now it's personal". Say or do what you will to me, but when you start attacking my friends, you incur my wrath as well.
You have all but held this board hostage the past couple of weeks with your insane number of meaningless, immature, "I'm posting for the sake of posting" posts. At very least, you have made this a far less enjoyable place to visit. You make my brain hurt. Perhaps it is my teaching background that has allowed me to make this correlation; but I don't think I'm the only one who can see that the IQ level of this board as a whole seems to be inversely proportional to your number of posts. In "plain English" - the more you post, the stupider (and yes, I did mean to say that instead of more stupid) this board gets.
If it were just myself who had a problem with you, or even if it were just me and langdon, I would bite my tongue until it bled (as I have done several times in the past couple of weeks while trying to be nice and not respond to some of the things you have said with which I have taken issue) and say nothing, in the interest of keeping peace on this board. I have always been a proponent of "can't we all just get along?" But, without betraying any confidences, I do feel free to say that I have had PM conversations with several different members in the past few days, which have inevitably ended with:
Mystery Woman: "Alright, I'll leave you to your posting..."
Other Member: "Yes, I have to go read all the posts Bobo didn't make"
- or something along those lines.
It seems to me that you have a decision to make here, Bobo. Since I always try to accentuate the positive, I will mention what I sincerely hope can happen. Best case scenario you will choose to smarten up, and use this board as it was meant to be used, while making an effort to get along with the people here whom we've all grown to know and love. After all, you do have as much right to be here as any of us. And I'm not saying you can't play and have fun here; God knows I'm guilty of that more than most. But please, try to contribute something besides grief to our little community while you do it. I don't think I need to even mention the worst case scenario; I believe you get the picture.

But, I'm muuuch better now! ;D ;D ;D

I was born in 1978, so that makes me 24. And I've realized ain't looking forward to being older the way I did when I was 16, 17 years old.

I remember most of the 80s though, because I always listened to the radio when I was in da crib.

I have friends from their late teens to early 40s who remember various aspects of the 80s with different perspectives, it's very refreshing to discuss the past with all these viewpoints.

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm also 24, and lately I've been feeling kinda old too. I was just a child in the 80's, and having these kids ask questions about the decade like it's as old and retro as the 50's and 60's is enough to make ya feel really aged.
A bad thing to think about is that this is just the beginning. It doesn't get any better, only worse. Can you imagine how bad it will be when you have kids ask questions about the 1990's?
Makes me wonder if anyone around our age acted this way to the 1970's back in 1992? Hmm...

I swear I posted to this thread way back when, but it must have been lost in the 4-11 board crash (actually 4-21).
I am 43 and the second oldest female on the board! Used to be #4, till Prairie Rose and Melanie took off for parts unknown... :'( (well I know of one current older member, but she registered and hasn't posted yet).
Anyway, I don't remember the 80s --everything after 1982 was a blur.... ::)

I myself am 32. There, I said it. 32. 32. 32. 32.
Now here's the question...how much leniency do the young deserve?

I think it depends on the woman...(as far as the "older man" thing goes" I dont really think it has anything to do with the age, it has to do with the maturity, contrary to popular belief, maturity does not neccessarily come with age. Ive dated guys that were my own age, and even one that was younger but for the most part I do better with older men, I'm 20 and my boyfriend is almost 28. We met when I was 17 and he was almost 25, but we didnt start dating until after I was 18. haha.

ok, Well, Im 20. (21 in March) so I remember a little of the 80's but when I remember isnt really the "fads and fashion" although with fashion I DO remember wearing leg warmers, crimping my hair, banana clips, side ponytails, etc.....but what I mostly remember is the toys and movies and stuff...I know absolutely NOTHING of 80's music. All I heard growing up was Oldies...from the 50's and 60's

That's funny - in HS while I liked alot of contemporary '80s stuff in music (fer sher), I was big into then-retro music - mostly '50s/early'60s. I blame my parents and "Happy Days" and "Grease" for that. ;D Scary to think I'm in their shoes - almost - now.

I turned 28 in September, so I barely remember the 70s, but experienced quite a bit in the 80s. I guess you never realize when you're growing up how nostalgic things will be until you're in your mid-late 20s. However, I will say this, I'm proud of the fact the music I like from that time, The Cure, Depeche, OMD, still sounds awesome to play now. I almost forgot the Furs, they're one of my favorites. Also, by the early 90s with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pumpkins and other bands music was definetly changing by the time I graduated from high school in '93.

I am a 68er - which I quite like as it meant I spent my entire childhood in the 70's (hence my dislike of anything orange or brown), my entire teens in the 80s (and now hence my dislike of anything in hot pink !!!!) - the best years to be a teen, my wild 20's in the 90's and now my sedate 30's in the noughties.
PS LH and MW - sooooooooo C 8) L !!!!

I was a child of the 70's as well. I understand your dislike of the colors. Our living room was what they called gold back then. Really, it bordered on an orange-yellow color that I don't even know if there is a true name for in the color spectrum. My mother still has the recliners in her basement, along with a couch that is a most lovely 70's green. If only she had saved the shag rug! Hot pink isn't so bad, however, I do suffer flashbacks when it is in combination with any other bright color.

Well a 30 year old would have been 19 in 1991, 1992. Believe me the sayings "Word up" and "homie" were around then too.
But there is something to be said about leaving your youth behind after you reach a certain age and acting more mature.

I am 30, and I remember the last time my mom took me to the movie theater was when E.T. was released, I just rented it for my kid, and she didn't seem very impressed w/it. I even cried the second time i saw it. And I also remember that movie theaters were the real thing back then, w/really big screens and photo screenshots posted under the posters, made you tickle with expectation. Now this whole multiplex-mall-movietheater deal isn't as cool as it was back then. And then again, that's just my humble opinion... :D
