I had guests, no I didn't. But I record Rage every week so I'll take a peek during the week.

Don't forget, Countdown was all mimed.

OMG! No I didnt! I used to always go to the rage website to take a look at the playlists to see if it was worth watching, but no more.

I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED ALL THAT!! :( I especially love the Thompson Twins!!!

My wife is from Yugoslavia, and last night was the Orthodox Xmas Eve, so we went partying at Francines in Northbridge until the wee hours, (lucky Ive got the day off today).

Did you tape any of it???

I want to see this show, so one of my Aussie buds will have to tape it and send me the video.  ;)

Incidentally, I've been searching for a compilation CD with nothing but 80s Aussie artists, i.e. Uncanny X-Men, Eurogliders, Kids in the Kitchen, Mental as Anything, Real Life, Icehouse, et. al. If BMGirl, Aphasia or Mr.Gazpacho can offer any suggestions, I would be eternally grateful!!!  :-*

Hmmm... 80s Oz acts. Could be a possibility.

BTW, I still have the tape (the first 3 hours) of the above show in PAL VHS, so in theory someone can send me a tape and I can run off a copy.

But they'll be playing similar shows for about the next 4 weeks anyway (check http://www.abc.net.au/rage/guest/default.htm on Friday night for the Saturday night playlist)

Well, they just aired a 4 or 5 hour documentary series on ABC titled "Long Way to the Top" which follows Oz rock music through the 70s and 80s (bands like Midnight Oil, Skyhooks, AC/DC, Divynils, Icehouse, etc etc)...it was excellent to see on TV, but theyve also released it on DVD and VHS...

...its more rock oriented, but if its what youre after let me know, OK?

I always forget to check Rage's website in advance !

Yes Mr G - I know they were mimed - I used the word "live" extremely loosely.  Watch for Cyndi totally stuffing up her own lines - I love it !

I dont know if Long Way To The Top came out as a CD special as well.  ABC website would definately tells us - I will go look.

I have never ever found a decent Aussie compilation - in fact I have only ever seen two that even had Xmen on them !  I always made my own comp tapes !!!
The Mushroom 25th Anniversary was probably a better one than most.  Wouldnt have had Real Life tho - hehe remind me to pull out my photos of me and those guys - ohhhhhhhhh the sax player was divine !!!!!

Well another night of watching rage till the wee small hours.

First there was the repeat Skyhooks special from when Shirl died last year.

First Countdown episode was 1979.  Shirl was hosting.  Dragon and LRB and ACDC were on.  ELO was at number 10, Bright Eyes from Watership Down was number 1.

Second episode was July84.  Started with Madonnas Borderline.  Billy Idol was interviewed.  Real Life were the hosts.  Also on the show Corey Hart, Icehouse (drool), and Human League.  Whams Wake me up before you go go was Number 1.

I need a fresh video cos it ran out after that !!!

On the weekend, TV ads started up for a double CD called "Double Shot of Oz" which is two songs each from a whole bunch of Oz/NZ artists, and it looks like most of the stuff is from the 80s. I'll put up the track listing after lunchtime today.

Not a bad selection there MrG - I still havent seen the ad !!!!

At least they have gone for some of the ones that dont always make it onto compilations.

I would love to see a "haircut" compilation of the Aussie 80's - with Kids, Venetians, Pseudo, Xmen etc etc.
