Subject: The 1970's Comedy Thread
Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 10/17/13 at 1:02 pm
So I was thinking we could have a series of threads where we can post our favorite comedic material from each decade. There is no limit on what type of media you can use. It can range from YouTube clips of television and radio shows or movies, to cartoons and comedic art. Just whatever you think is funny. ;)

Blazing Saddles - Mongo Like Candy
Classic film, along with "Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Which I saw as a double bill at the cinema back in the 1970s.

The first time I saw this I was a senior in high school and I watched it at a friend's house on VHS. We were laughing so hard at this scene that we had to stop the tape. :D

Archie on Gun Control
Oh God yes. All in the Family was awesome, but I didn't realize it at the time. I first remember watching this show with my parents when I was 4 or 5 years old, and to be honest it frightened and confused me. There I was watching this show with these grown-ups yelling and screaming at each other and meanwhile my dad is sitting in his easy chair laughing his ass off, and it made absolutely no sense to me.
Then when I was in my early 20's I caught a rerun of the show and I was just floored at how funny it was. What makes it work mso well is that Archie may be a complete asshole, but when it came down to it he was fundamentally a decent guy. And Meathead, though he might be more liberal and educated and enlightened, is every bit as much of an asshole as Archie is.
Edith always frightened me when I was a kid, probably because she was so herky-jerky, but what was great about her was that although she may have been dingy about a lot of things, deep down she was a really wise person and would always get Archie to do the right thing.

You will find that "The Trail of the Pink Panther" was released in 1982. The film was a critical and commercial failure. Although the film was marketed as a tribute to Sellers, it was widely panned by critics. For Peter Sellers died before production began and the film contains no original material apart from the animated opening titles, created by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises. His performance only consists of flashbacks and outtakes from previous films.
