Do you remember when you got your first color TV?

I do. It was a huge set and it was fun watching my favorite shows and sports on color TV instead of B&W.  We got ours in 1971 or early 1972 I think. The whole family was excited.

Once when we were watching "I love Lucy" or "Dick Van Dyke" show, and it wasn't in color, I thought out set was broken.  ;D
My parents had to explain to me that those were old shows & were filmed in B&W  ;D

Yes, I remember it clearly. It was not even 10 years ago for my 18th birthday and it was a CRT one. Still working.  ;)

It was brought out in 1973 and that would have been about the time that we acquired it. Note those funky push-button controls, which could only be operated with a broom handle! Remote control, you say? What on earth was that?!!

Me and my sisters (being of that age) were strictly prohibited from going within 3 yards of the thing! Woe bedtide us if we even thought of turning it on!

If memory serves, it lasted pretty well - up 'til the start of the 80s, when one of the colour tubes went kaput - meaning everything you watched was in a fetching shade of greeny-blue.

I moved away from home in about 1973.  After I moved out they got color t.v. and a pool. hmmmmmm ::)  ;D

Wait, I know what you are referring to.  Some Zenith TVs had a built in phone  My dad had one.  You would hit a button on the remote, and you could call someone or you could receive a call through your TV.  It was known as Space Phone, yes

just like today's TV where you'd get a call and the name would appear on the tv screen showing who called with the person and phone number and if you would like to pick up the phone or not.

I can't recall exactly when it was.  I know I was at primary school, but walking home on my own so it was 1978 -1980.

We rented our tv at the time (most people did) and I can still remember seeing the van from the tv rental company parked across from our house and thinking that maybe we were getting a colour tv.  God knows why I thought that rather than that the tv was being repaired. Maybe friends had recently upgraded to colour.

Anyway a new tv was being set up in the house.  It was in a cabinet with two folding doors.  I think this one had four push buttons for the channels (still only three actual channels available).

If you have FiOS or Time Warner Cable, when your phone rings, the name appears on the TV screen whoever it is and you have the option to answer the phone if you want to.

The tv doesn't make calls.  When you have your landline through your cable system and it rings, a box appears on the screen telling you who is calling.

I think my family was the last of all my friends' families to get a color TV. I think it was in the early 80's. When I moved out on my own in the mid-80's, I took my little portable black and white TV from my bedroom and continued to use it until around 1991, I think. LOL! My friends all wondered how I could stand to watch a tiny black and white TV.

I haven't had mine since not long after I stopped using it.

For some reason, this just reminded me of the time (in the 90's) when my sister's daughter asked her mom if TV was black and white when she was a kid. I looked at her and said, with my best straight face, "The whole world was black and white then." She believed me and I felt bad. She still remembers that.

We got ours in the very early 1970s.

When I was growing up we always had color TVs. So, it's all I've ever known in the world of television. 

My parents, who are in their 50s now, got their first one around 1971 or after when they were just kids. They said they were super excited. Before 1971, they only had TVs with black and white television programming.

We don't have cable or satellite TV, we don't want it, I only use our TV to watch DVDs.

I, too, prefer radio.

Although I can always find something else to do rather than just sit in front of a television such as my songwriting, playing keyboard or improving my chess.

Our first family color tv was in 1976. it was a Quasar console tv. The kids weren't allowed to touch it, so we only watched it when our parents were around.

Yep...you had to go over to the tv and turn the knob. But, with only a hand full of channels to choose from, you didn't spend much time near the tv. We had 3(abc), 5(independent local), 8(pbs), 10(cbs), 12(nbc). There was also a couple of uhf channels that were usually religious. About midnite, you would get the national anthem and then the tv would go to test pattern or static.

I actually didn't get my own color TV until about 1993/1994. Until then I used an old relic from the 60s in my bed room!

Mine had the rabbit ears and everything. And I remember, it was so old that before I shut it off at night, I would have to turn the volume dial--there was no remote, just knobs-- all the way up or I wouldn't be able to hear it in the morning. What's funny is my mother's current bought in the 80s tv played out way before mine did and I swear it still was one of the scariest moments of my life.
