For people like Elvis, Whitney Houston, and even Michael Jackson and others, the time to stop them from taking drugs  (or prescription drugs) was sooner than the last minute, yeah. Drugs change people, drugs kill.  :(

Elvis' behavior was more than likely brought on by some sort of bi-polar disorder....depression. In the 70's these conditions
were rarely diagnosed and even more rarely treated properly. Had he been treated properly for chronic depression things
may have been different, but Elvis thought he was smarter than everyone else. The self medicating did him in.

Yes. An addict's state of mind is different than ours. We can try to reason it out but an addict just wants more drugs. Unless he tries to help himself, the #1 thing he/she will want on any given day is "more drugs". If that addict doesn't want to help themselves, giving them 20 life coaches will not achieve anything.

It has nothing to do with Fame... there are plenty of non-famous people who self destruct in the exact same way.  Just because fame and talent and life seems like it should be wonderful for someone like Elvis doesn't mean it was.... the materialistic wonders of life were not placating enough to make his life worth living.. he felt he needed more to make him numb or make him feel....so he chose drugs to get what he thought he was missing in his day to day life... it's sad

I often wonder why whenever you see Elvis impersinators, it is the sequin jumpsuit look from the 70s.  You seldom see Elvis impersinators who copy the leather jacket look from the 50s/60s

I've been there twice and highly recommend it. As a matter-of-fact, I think of it as America's version of Mecca. Everyone should make the pilgrimage at least once in their life.

I didn't actually meet him, but I was at the Nebraska State Fair about 10-12 years ago and there was this local Elvis impersonator in Lincoln who did a show there at an outdoor theater. After he was done he sat about two tables away from me and my brother, and it was funny because all of these women in their 50s and 60s were sitting down by him and swooning over him. And he acted like he thought he was the coolest guy on God's green earth. It was funny yet kind of pathetic at the same time.

Elvis had bigger problems than going on a diet (which of course would have  helped too), but he was a drug addict.
