Subject: How to get a feel for '70s fashion changes as they happened?
Written By: Ryan112390 on 05/13/11 at 10:04 pm
What films and TV shows would you say best show the change from the early, still Hippie-ish early '70s, to the Disco-tinged end of the decade?
Also--Is it just me, or does the idea of archiving ALL news reports, from every station, no matter how mundane, seem a good way to preserve both the pop culture (in seeing the way people in the backgrounds of news reports are dressed, etc) and the general feelings of an era? I don't know if news reports and the like are that thoroughly archived, but they should be.

How about American Bandstand and/or Soul Train. The young people who danced on those shows generally dressed according to the fashion of the day.

This deserves a follow up. I found some footage from Soul Train on YouTube. So you can see how the fashions changed, take a look at what's being worn in the following videos. Note especially things like patterns, fabrics, skirt lengths, mens collars, shoes, and the type of denims that were worn.
