Subject: game from the 70's?
Written By: KeoniK on 12/28/10 at 12:14 am
It was a stand-up game that had a knob that turned left and right near the bottom. The object was to maneuver the metal balls that would drop down from the top down along a "seesaw" set of "ledges" so that they went cleanly to the bottom. It was on a timer, so if you were too slow, another metal ball would drop down at the same time and you would have to balance both of them on their respective ledges.
I cannot remember the name of this game, and my sister does not remember it. I had a dream about it the other night and am trying to remember what it is called!
Thanks,
Chuck

Except for the timer and the second "ball" thing, it sounds like a labyrinth. They still make them and they are still out of wood, but it is hard to find a good one. I had one that worked a few years ago, but it fell apart. It used to come with two metal balls, I think but the one I had more recently only had one. I was not good at it at all...

Here is the link for a labyrinth. Notice the comments...I guess they had the same experience I did! But it is fun while it lasts.

I can picture this game in my head, but I have no idea what the name is...or what kind of mechanism dropped the next ball down as you were playing. Labyrinth is close, yes, but this one stood up. I'll keep looking.
(p.s. Mousetrap of course was and is an awesome game.)

I've yet to find anyone else who remembers this game, which I loved as a kid. You would spin the arrow and place the item on the "rug." At some point someone had to try to pull the rug out without all the items crashing down. Anyone remember this? (It came out in '68 actually)

Thirded. But I don't remember a route-finding game or dexterity game that has a timer that releases extra balls.
So I don't know the answer either, but I'll bet this guy probably does.

DefCon, you seemed on the right track...it was not labyrinth, nor was it Mousetrap. It was taller...much taller, and stood more upright. It was not maze-like...the ledges the ball(s) dropped down were all running horizontally to each other. There were no holes in the board; the object was to get the ball from the top of the game to the bottom by dropping it on the ledges. Sometimes if you were really fast, you could turn the knob at the bottom quickly left to right and skip over a few ledges. Plus, the game was made mostly out of plastic with a plastic clear cover over the front. The two legs at the bottom also removed so you could store the game flat in its large box.

Pre-emptive Karma for "Ideal Frantic Fall". That wheel at the top looks like it rotates, acting as a timer to drop multiple balls, and the rest of it matches the description.
