Subject: Help me ID a Dimly Remembered 70s Movie
Written By: Trev.fm on 12/06/09 at 4:32 am
I really hope this rings a bell with somebody, 'cos it's kinda bugging me :-\\.
This 70s movie features a touring West Coast sounding rock band and the only scene I remember is the band sitting at the back of the tour bus "singing" this punk rock song they'd seen the night before at a punk gig, the lyrics of which were "'cos i'm not really there, no i'm not really there".
I've tried every google combination I can think of, but no luck.

I have to chime in, partly because nobody else is, and also because something doesn't seem to add up here.
I really don't recall many images of punk rock in cinema prior to about 1980. What started me thinking of this is that there's a scene in the film, 'Sid And Nancy', that is reminiscent of what you describe - except for the lyrics - but that one didn't come along until '86. Which led me to think of other films with actual punk bands in them, and the first that I could think of was 'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle', which came out in '80 - same year as early Brit-punk chronicle, 'D.O.A.' These latter two were both filmed in the (late) '70s, at least.
So then I searched your lyrics in a few different ways and found a song by the Descendents, a Southern California punk band from the late '80s/early '90s, who had a different song from that one in a film I never saw, called 'Pump Up The Volume', with Christian Slater.
Maybe this will help to jog your memory? I don't know - but I'll put the IMDb links to these films below. Good luck!

I had been looking around imdb.com but not finding any seventies films that seemed to match the criteria given.

Thanks for the replies, duderinos and duderinettes. Yeah, none of those movies fit the bill Solly, I've seen all of them but D.O.A., there's one movie I came across at Amazon.com, I'm going to buy when I got the cash, that seems to fit the bill called Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains, so thanks (given the year of making is 1982 means I hang my head in shame at my err.. chronologically challenged memory.)
Yeah, cool place, too. I was surprised to see that "The Six Million Dollar Man" is still unavailable on DVD in the States.
Cheers
