Subject: Homegrown Artists - Biggest by Country (The 70s)
Written By: whistledog on 01/23/09 at 10:58 pm
Every country has their own bands/singers that generally have bigger success in their homeland than they do elsewhere. So can anyone tell me who were the biggest artists in their respective countries during the 1970s?
Based on number of hits (not just Top 40), these were the 7 biggest Canadian artists in Canada during the 1970s (with some singles spanning from the 60s and/or into the 80s)
THE GUESS WHO - 33 hits (29 Top 40) 1965 - 1976
APRIL WINE - 32 Hits (21 Top 40) 1971 - 1985, 1993
GORDON LIGHTFOOT - 26 hits (23 Top 40) 1962-1982, 1986
ANDY KIM - 24 hits (14 Top 40) 1968 - 1976, 1980 - 1985, 1991, 2004
CHILLIWACK - 23 hits (8 Top 40) 1968 - 1983
FIVE MAN ELECTRICAL BAND - 21 hits (14 Top 40) 1965 - 1975
BACHMAN-TURNER OVERDRIVE - 21 hits (12 Top 40) 1971 - 1979, 1989
