Subject: Blood, Sweat and Tears

Written By: whistledog on 10/28/08 at 10:38 pm

Blood, Sweat and Tears is an American music group that formed in 1967.  Following the release of their 1968 sebut album ''Child is Father of the Man', co-founder and vocalist Al Kooper left the band.  He was replaced by David-Clayton-Thomas, a British born Canadian singer who had already been a popular solo artist in Canada.  Thomas' deep vocals became an instant fan favourite and their 1969 self-titled album won the 1970 Grammy Award for Best Album and spawned 3 hit singles

In 1972, Thomas left the group over creative differences, but returned in 1974.  Despute the fact that Thomas was the only Canadian in the group, all their singles from 1975 and 1976 recognized the group as a Canadian band under CANCON rules.  I still cannot figure out how this was possible.  In 1978, BS&T called it quits, yet in 1979, Thomas resumed the group with an all Canadian line-up but disbanded again in 1981 due to the fact that he did not own the rights to the BS&T name.  A deal was eventually struck and Thomas toured the world as BS&T from 1984-2004

To date, David Clayton-Thomas has not recieved a star on Canada's Walk of Fame

"What?" - you might ask, "Didn't Al Kooper have any solo hits?"  :-\\ ???

The answer is: yes. In 1973 he had something of a hit over here with "Jolie" (although it got stuck in bubbling under section).

I had no idea he recorded solo.  I'll have to seek it out

My husband is a Blood Sweat  & Tears  fan. We saw them at WI State fair back in '01 or '02 and they sounded pretty good, especially the lead singer.

Blood, Sweat and Tears to me are also known for one important thing:  The most scariest album cover ever!  Their 1974 album 'Mirror Image'.  Man, this really freaks me out ...

I still remember seeing them in their prime.  I think it was around 1970, my parents took me to see the 5th Dimension in concert.  And the opening act was BS&T.  What an experience!
