Subject: Favorite horror movies of the 70's?
Written By: xSiouXBoIx on 10/27/07 at 9:19 am
Mine are predictable-'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (the scariest movie I've ever seen), 'Halloween' (it started my obsession with horror movies, especially slashers, after being too afraid to watch them for YEARS), and 'Suspria' (which got me into Italian horror movies, and into watching certain directors films).

I love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, one of my favorite scenes is when they try to get Grandpa to hit the girl with the hammer.
Some of my favorites are:
Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
Don't Be Afraid of The Dark
The Exorcist
He Knows You're Alone
The Mephisto Waltz
Carrie
The Omen
Magic

To avoid fainting, keep repeating "It's only a movie...It's only a movie..."
The tag line from one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen.....It may not have helped that I was pretty young when I first saw it....
from 1972, "The Last House on the Left"
There's only ONE thing wrong with the Davis baby... It's Alive.
"It's Alive" 1974
Amity Island had everything. Clear skies. Gentle surf. Warm water. People flocked there every summer. It was the perfect feeding ground.
"Jaws" 1975
The lucky ones died first...
"The Hills Have Eyes" 1977
If this one doesn't scare you, you're already dead!
"Phantasm" 1979
There are many more, but I figured I would leave it open for other people's favorites.

My absolute favourite has to be the original 'Dawn Of The Dead'. Damn that movie scared me senseless.
Other notables:
Burnt Offerings (1976)
Audrey Rose (1977), even though its not really a horror film IMO, its still classed as horror.
Carrie
The Amityville Horror (1979) though the book is so much better.
Jaws
The Exorcist
Halloween
The Hills Have Eyes
The Omen
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
There are many many others...But lll leave it at that for now.
