Subject: 70's Toys

Does anyone remember Dawn Dolls by Topper Toy Company? I got one for Christmas in 1973 when I was 8 years old. She was a small Barbie wannabe doll with long brown hair, a mini skirt, and aqua colored go go boots. I would have loved to have the entire collection, especially the African-American dolls, Glory and her boyfriend, Van. There was also a fashion show storage box, a beauty pageant stage, and tons of clothes! Maybe I will buy some dolls on E-Bay one day :)

I remember these.
At the time there was some brief controversy (especially in the south).
They were called "burn-your-bra Barbies". Most moms were outraged by them and wouldn't buy them for their little girls.
I remember my cousin crying her eyes out because my aunt wouldn't buy one of "those trampy Barbies".
My cousin collects them now.
The "Bratz" of their day.

You are the same age as my daughter. She loved to play with mine when she was little. I still have mine and some that I bought at a rummage sale back in the 90s.

We had a whole bunch of Dawn dolls-Dawn Fashion Show, and several other accessories. I think I have one left-but my sister is "doll sitting" indefinitely for me. Since she is really into dolls, I "loaned" her all the dolls that I had left, with the assumption that she would NEVER sell them. I'm sure she gets more enjoyment that I would. (Even though she knows that 2 of the Madam Alexander dolls are mine, she has told me that I am never going to get them back because they look so great where she has them displayed. :D ;D ;D )
