Thanks for the additional info.  I always suspected that he had some other minor hits in America :)

I bet he had some others in the UK as well

Internationally, Terry Jacks is best known as a one hit wonder, but sadly he had a whole handful of hits that the world outside of Canada didn't really get to see.  He had more with The Poppy Family, but for now, here is his solo chart singles collection ...

1974 - Seasons in the Sun
1974 - If You Go Away
1975 - Rock and Roll (I Gave You the Best Years of My Life)

For me, Terry Jacks is not a one hit wonder, as judged by the UK Charts.

For the record, I have the three above 45s in my collection at home.

Where is he now?

Nope...only those two mentioned above (although 'Rock & Roll' did become a hit for Kevin Johnson, who wrote it)...

After 'If You Go Away' (a dire song by anyone's standards), Mr. Jacks did go away... :-\\

I have recently discovered that Dusty Springfield recorded If You Go Away

Oh, it's probably been recorded many times by many acts...

...but I've never thought much of it!

Great musician all around. Even his work with his ex wife Susan in the Poppy Family produced great songs. I've loved his music for years.

As far as I know, he no longer performs, but he is still involved in production of other people's work

1974-1975 was generally a depressing era for "Pop Music".

You had "Seasons In The Sun", "Billy Don't Be A Hero", The Night Chicago Died", "One Tin Soldier", and a slew of other songs that were basically big downers.

I for one was glad when Disco came along, and livened things up again.  8)

One Tin Soldier dates back to 1969, so the 1974 version just re-depressed everyone lol

You said it, pal...

Know who the most successful singles chart act in Britain was in 1974?

Grown men dressed in furry costumes...that's who!

LOL didn't they do a cover of Wizzard's "I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday"?

Heavily popularised recycling.

They did...a few Christmases back...

Worse...they prised in a bit of their own Christmas offering, 'Wombling Merry Christmas'...

Even worse...the great Roy Wood was somehow cajoled into this debacle...

It wasn't pretty...

All this Womble bashing! I feel the need to interject something positive:

*Wombles are organized (work as a team)
*Wombles are tidy and Wombles are clean

;)

People don't notice them, they never see them, under noses a Womble may be.

You can say what you want about the state of music in 74. But remember here in America people where so tired of the War, Watergate and a ton of other junk. The early 70's started rough but the mood of music reflected the changes needed. Kent State kids was kind of a last bastion for the antiwar protest. Pop music went to a lighter side of the music protest against the war. Also remember that at the time the I am woman theme had it's great run there with the Bra-burnings...Even though the equal-rights bill never made it...  :-[ :-[

Okay, okay...so they were years ahead of their time with the eco-friendly work ethic... :D

Never too old and if you scroll down far enough, eventually you will find something you recognize!  Liked the song, never knew who did it.  (My parents were big disco...had to go out of the house to hear anything else)

Thought I'd bump this thread.  I've been listening to Terry Jacks' greatest hits album quite abit, and I love that song 'Hey Country Girl' just so much.  It's a beautiful, catchy soft love song.  If you ever get a chance to hear it, please do.  I guarantee you will love it! :)
