This is one of the best 70s songs.

Did you know that 10cc was formed from the remnants of a 60's group called Wayne Fontana And The Mindbenders, famous for their song "Groovy Kind Of Love"? Then in the mid 80's, two members of 10cc had a one hit wonder under their own surnames, Godley and Creme, called "Cry".

Great band with great records.  Our cover band does this song and it's the one that really wakes me up and makes me smile.
Good one.

I agree...I actually think it's an underrated song too. My favourite 10CC song along with 'I'm Not In Love'.

Ah !  But !!!!

One hit wonder depends on your definition.

Where I am, Cry was a moderate hit, but they had much MORE success with "An Englishman In New York" - not to be confused with the Sting song of the same name..

Always ones for the somewhat surreal, this is how "Englishman" reads :  :)

Demented New York athletes staggering round the block
Deforned Chicanos pour in, Chicago's rolling stock
Digital bathrooms drilling for furs
Surgical stockings marked his and hers
Guggenheim attitudes back to back
With Jewish Baroque

No way street
No way street
Happy to see you, have a nice day!

Defecting Russian dancers dance into Hockney prints
Exclusive to Bloomingdales, gift-wrapped in red
From the land of blue rinse
They boggle at menus in Olde English verse
"Ode to burger" by Keats at his worst
The hissing of omelettes the breaking of legs
Don't shoot till you see the whites of their eggs
The pink fillet mignon looks black on the negs

Strange apparatus
You've never seen
Strange apparatus, even stranger theme
Street alligators
Big Anglophile
Will navigate us through a change of style

I came, I saw, what manner of beast is this
New York, you talk a little bit left of centre
A scream, a shout
New York is throwing its weight about
Walk tall, walk straight, spit the world right in the eye
The stranger the wood the straighter the arrow
Dismembered hopeful My-Lai veterans queuing for sleaze
"Sorry no dogs, no fags, no shriners, and no amputees"

Sexual athlete applies for audition
Willing to make it in any position
Just one of the extras with blood on their faces
In snow-white and the seven basket cases
I'm happy and dopey and dirty in places
No way street
No way street
Lock up your daughters, Avon crawling...

Devoted collectors of paraphernalia out walking the rock
Battle and bitch for the ultimate kitch
of a crucifix clock
Two miniature romans, running on rails
Appear every hour and bang in the nails
I've got to have it, Christ, I gotta be the first
on our block

Disturbing facts about Nazi splinter groups seen on the news
They're picketing synagogues and claiming that
Hitler was King of the Jews
Caught in the tunnel an ambulance howls
A men's room attendant is flapping his jowls
Ssshh, Howard Johnson is moving his bowels

Strange apparatus
You've never seen
Strange apparatus, even stranger theme
Street alligators
Big Anglophile
Will navigate us through a change of style
Strange apparatus
You've never seen
Strange apparatus, even stranger theme
Walk straight, walk tall, spit the world right in the eye
The stranger the wood, the straighter the arrow

No way street

I LOVE 10CC!!!

I had the chance to see them a couple of years ago. My Mum and step father went and I went along with them because Ive always been a fan of this particular bands songs. Especially Rubber Bullets, Im Not In Love, The Things We Do For Love and Dreadlock Holiday.

I have to say that even though they had aged, they still put on a brilliant performance. During the break my Mum went down a corridore for a smoke, I dont smoke but went to keep her company...And Lo and behold the band walked down the corridore. I got their autographs, but didnt have a camera handy and the mobile phone's camera wasnt working. The guys were really nice and very friendly, and were quite shocked to discover that they had a fan as young as I am...32 at the time, but I told them that Id grown up listening to their music and loved their songs.

Their rendition of Rubber Bullets and Im Not In Love was way better than any recording theyve ever done.

Before that, G&C racked up two British Top Tens with 'Under Your Thumb' & 'Wedding Bells', so their OHW tag can't be applied here either...

'Cry' is probably the most well-known because of 'that' video (dirge of a song tho'...)

And not forgetting that 75% of 10cc did achieve OHW status under the name of Hotlegs with the lyrically-challenged 'Neanderthal Man'...
