Wow - it's amazing that you're listening to 8-Tracks these days :o
From what I recall, as long as the tape and equipment are in good shape, 8-Tracks can be a superb listening experience. The purchased 8-Track I had that got the most action was my Beatles 1962-1966 hits collection (the "red" album), a two cartridge set. Throughout the weeks in late 1980 after John Lennon was murdered and we were all grieving, I played them over and over and over and over...

Oh yes sweetie,8 tracks are pure analog glory!! (As long as the source is 100% analogue that is)
I love 8 tracks as hardily any of them have DOLBY NOISE REDUCTION (None of my 8 tracks have it and they all are silent and sound good)
I get cassettes also but I try to get EARLY casettes w/o dolby,etc.......... I love analogue!!

Yup Thats the first song oin my 8 track....The last song is Na Na hey hey kiss him goodbye - STEAM
The 8 track is both records on 1 cartridge..... They maxed out track 2 like crazy! (The last song barely makes it ;D (Better than spliting it off to the next track I guess))
No Howard I dont have any Disco 8 tracks (Unless SOUL TRAIN is considered disco I dunno)
Anyway
Right now im listening to my RUSH cartridge! (Exit stage left (1981 concert))
Current song: Spirit of radio
This concert has the BEST version of Xanadu I have ever heard! (Much better than the record this song is on)
They did an excellent job on this tape.... NO SPLIT SONGS!! (The track is set @ 20 Mins 16 seconds) - One of the longest tapes I have!!

The 8-track player was my mother's so we never had rock on 8-track. It was all my mother's showtunes. I think the first 8-track tape that we ever owned was Fiddler on the Roof. We also had The Fantasticks. The funny thing was, last week, I was listing to the Fantasticks on CD. During one song, in my mind I could still hear it switching to the next track.

Yea I hear ya...... I like getting tapes that DO NOT SPLIT SONGS!! (Happens alot on 8 track)
I have a couple that do not split ANYTHING and they are goregous!
1) RUSH - Exit stage left (1981) - Live concert
2) Chicagos first album (1969) - Although some songs are slightly shorter they didnt split any...
3) Neil Diamonds first concert (1972) - A hot august night (Although 2 songs were left off)
I dont think they really want to have to split songs but sometimes I guess its needed to fit everything...... I have a cassette that has a split song also!! (Lynard Skynards first album (FREE BIRD continues on side 2))

My sister had Lynard Skynard on cassette and I do remember Free Bird being on both sides. I had planned to record it but didn't want to have it split. I thought that really sucked. You buy an album only to find out they split a song.

The original "American Pie" 45, which I bought in 1971, splits the song over both sides of the record. There really wasn't any way to get it all on one side of a 7-inch single, sound-wise. It sort of very slightly fades out on side one and slightly fades back in on side two. AM Radio stations all had their own special shortened edit of the song, although I cannot recall now what they omitted.

I can. They omitted the first & last part (the slow part) and this verse:
Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`Cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing
You can guess why it was omitted.

Ya buddy I have the 3 8 track set and the 4 records of it....... The records ARE BETTER because its the first release and they didnt put any stupid fake stereo in it..... (50s songs are MONO and are best that way)
On the 8 tracks they come from the re-issue and they try to make some of the songs sound like they are stereo (They alternate from left to right channel in the song KA DING DONG by The diamonds when he says DING DONG..... Its stupid!! but thats what happened in the 70s stuff started getting worse)
Im glad I have an adapter to listen in MONO,I would not like hearing that nonsense! (I dont think the original release is on 8 track im not sure though)

Many cassette players have a little hole in or near the door for adjusting the head. If it wasn’t there I’ve drilled a hole to do that. Same with drilling a hole to adjust the motor speed pot. And I keep a baby screwdriver nearby.
I preferred running with the Dolby off. It made it brighter and clearer. The tape hiss was just part of the experience, just like the clicks and pops of vinyl.
I had a handful of 8 tracks. Like a box of 30 I think. I don’t think I still have them as I didn’t know better and stored them I’m my crawl space where they got ruined. My most memorable one was J Geils Freeze Frame. Rage In The Cage was one of those split songs. I dubbed some onto cassette because I wanted the ability to rewind.

I was always a big fan of Country Joe McDonald. Great songwriter. He made some great solo albums. They weren't very well known, but they were good. Check out "Hold On, It's Coming" from 1970-71. It's kind of a psychedelic acoustic/electric folk rock.

I have that album on vinyl. I was never a Foghat fan but an old boyfriend gave it to me-along with a Boston album. Kept the albums but got rid of him.

Maybe it's that famous country pop star Elton John Denver. Like that hilarious character Eddie Murphy used to play on Saturday Night Live, Little Richard Simmons, a combination of Little Richard and Richard Simmons. ;D ;D ;D
