yes...they still sell lots of items, they sell a LOT more than just cosmetics, etc. now. They have clothes, children's items, jewelry, shoes..etc.

Back in the 70s my mother had a friend who was an Avon Lady, she was always around (I wonder why?), especially with an older sister.

My mother sold it (along with Rainbow vacuum cleaners and Encyclopedia Britannica). I'm not too sure if one of my sister's sold it, too but I sold it for a short period of time. I actually lost $$$ trying to sell it. I was never much of a salesperson. I probably couldn't sell water in the Sahara. ::)

I too lost loads of cash trying to sell it.. you had to buy the books which was alot. Then I think Pay the postage to send the stuff in and buy the money order. >:(
I did it again in 2000 I made out pretty good at the office I worked at, mostly selling nightgowns, tote bags , lotions..... but then I started loosing money again because people would quit and Id get stuck buying thier stuff. INstead of returning it, it was too much hassle.

Can't tell ya how many times I got stiffed. I think I only sold it for maybe 6 months, tops. I THOUGHT that Avon would practically sell itself-yeah right. NEVER AGAIN!!!
Edited to add that one good thing came out of my selling Avon. I met a very dear friend-the first person to open the door to me. But, alas, I have lost contact over the years with this person.

A woman in my neighborhood was an Avon-Lady. She was very good at convincing my Mom I needed stuff.

Oh man, I think my mom had every kind of Avon imaginable! We had the neighbor lady that came to the house at least once every couple weeks and mom bought tons of it! She bought me almost all of the little Pin Pals that had the solid perfume in them, and the lip glosses, I had the pop bottles, the pencil, oreo cookie, penny. . . . and way to much more mention! :)

that was geared toward the teens.. and they had two other fragrances for the little girls.. one was called Pink and Pretty ( usually came in the various decanters they had), and another was called Delicate Daisies I think.
My grandma sold Avon and I was very familiar with their products and actually describe myself as a recovering 'avonaholic'. I used to buy the stuff like crazy.
I loved the following 60s and 70's fragrances:
Rapture
Brocade
Hawaiian White Ginger
Come Summer
Apple Blossom
70's /80's /90's fragrances
Sweet Honesty
Zany
Cote'D'Azur
Pearls and Lace
Timeless
Soft Musk
Facets
Odyssey
Imari
Inspire
and this doesn't even cover the hundreds of dollars I spent on all the different cosmetics and earrings I bought. I was an Avon Lady's dream come true :P
Every now and then I will go on an Avon kick.. but luckily for me, I don't see too many Avon books lying around anymore.

I think I remember seeing a movie about the two of them once. It was... umm... hang on, someone's at the door. Boy are they gonna be surprised!

*cat pins with faces that would open to reveal solid sweet honesty perfume
*nail polish in a bottle smaller than your pinkie finger as my cousin Trish put it..

Her Prettiness and Small World items.
Hawaiian White Ginger.
I especially liked getting the small sample lipsticks.

Being male, and the only child, I never recieved an Avon gift (I was a pre-teen kid in the late 1970's). I was the only child of a divorced mother...Anyway, a fond memory I have is of the Avon Lady walking up the steps to our verandah calling out that world famous call. She was really nice and lived a street over from us. I remember my Mum always being really happy when the Avon Lady left, and the house smelled of perfume.

The Avon Lady in our town used to tool around on a red moped. I thought of her when I saw "Edward Scissorhands"!

My wife sold Avon back in the 80's, she had a partner for a while until one day her partners husband killed her in a jealous rage and killed himself too, leaving their two young daughters orphans...sad but true.
Anyway, my wife used to buy more of the crap then what she sold. I collected the after shave decanters for a while and still have them somewhere in my junk room in the cellar, I'll sell them on e-bay some day,
In my world, Avon was profitable company, so I told my if she wants to make real money with Avon she should buy and sell their stock in the company, she didn't, but I did, I bought and some "put" contracts, I got lucky and took the family to Disneyworld with the profits, seeing she couldn't sell that much Avon in 5 years in what I did in a couple of weeks, she quit selling Avon after that...and I didn't push my luck either and we both got out of Avon.
Thanks Avon, and we still miss Joe and Dorothy.

I'm sorry I even brought that subject and only touched on it, but it totally turned our lives upside down after it happened. That's all I can say, only that their daughters are doing just fine now, their both married and have children.

Thank God for the resilience in children.

I used to love Avon as a kid. I'd get alot of those nail polishes. Now I won't spend that much on nail polish or cosmetics. lol I'm such a cheapskate.
I don't really wear alot of perfume anymore, so I can't convince myself I need any of that stuff. I did like Pearls and Lace and Soft Musk and...Timeless I think it was for awhile.
I never sold it either, I really never liked to guilt people into spending money they really couldn't afford to. That was mostly everybody I knew so...
