Subject: 1970's crushes
Written By: SweetAlice on 09/10/06 at 6:00 pm
I had the biggest crush on Shane Sinutko, from the Shaggy DA and Little House on the Prarie.
I also loved the Laborteaux brothers, especially Matthew. ;)

Brings us to "Pumping and Blowing", from The Pirate Movie, 1982. I'm posting this here because I can't find the lyrics anywhere, and I've recently "acquired" a copy of what are possibly the most tasteless lyrics to ever make it into a PG-rated movie.
http://www.efilmcritic.com/review.php?movie=9949&reviewer=392
As a kid, I remember the relevant scene from the movie. It involved a mechanical pump and some harmless animation. As an adult, well, I now I know why all us kids were wondering why all the adults in the theater were keeled over in the aisle trying not to laugh their farking heads off.
Pumpin' and Blowin'
- Kristy McNichol, 1982
((begin stereotypical synthpop backbeat))
(Male background vocal) "Keep pumpin!" (Female background vocal) "Blowin!" ((it gets worse))
Hey, it's an old wives' story,
Said it's old wives' tale.
I say that love is glory,
I tell you love's so frail. (Mmm!)
Loving needs a bandage,
And intensive care,
And it's a disadvantage,
When you're playin' fair. ((now what could she mean by THAT?))
CHORUS:
If you're treadin' water, and romance is on the slide,
Don't you know you have to swallow ((they're not gonna go there))
Something more than water ((Oh God they are))
It's your pride. ((And worse))
Uh huh, I huffed and puffed,
Just to keep love goin'.
I'm done, I've had enough,
Of pumpin' and a blowin'.
(Keep pumping! Blowing!)
Y'know a woman's labor,
Is never, ever done. ((Hey, Kristy, as long as you're in this lyrical hole...))
So could you do me a favor, ((here's a shiny new shovel!))
And father tell your son: ((that's it, when you're in a hole, just keep digging!))
CHORUS:
If he's treading water, and romance is on the slide,
Don't you know you have to swallow,
Something more than water,
It's your pride.
Uh huh, I huffed and puffed,
Just to keep love goin'.
I'm done, I've had enough
Of pumpin' and a blowin'.
Keep pumpin! Blowin! ((Repeat / fade until the parents in the audience have recovered their composure and can come up with some excuse as to why they were laughing harder than the kids.))
A song so wrong on so many levels that had no business being in a PG-rated movie, except for no reason other than to ensure that Dad would get an eyeful of Kristy workin' that pump, and, umm... well, eew.

This thread has prompted me to search the internet to try and find images of the posters that I had on my bedroom wall in 1977 (aged 14, teenage boy in England with raging hormones ::)).
The first one is Kate Bush, wow she was so beautiful - it's not the best picture of her I've ever seen but this is the poster that I had.
The second one is The Runaways, from L to R that's Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Sandy West and Vicki Blue. My mother hated this poster. she called them "those terrible hard faced girls". I have to say in retrospect they look pretty miserable on this picture LOL! In fact my mother hated everything about The Runaways, but then I guess that was part of their appeal to me...
The other thing I had on my wall was a large scale map of California (as that's where The Runaways came from), I was convinced I was going to live there when I grew up....whatever happened to that plan eh?

There is claim that says he died of heart failure due to his drug abuse. It wasn't an overdose, it was the effects of the drug abuse.

Tell me about it. Actually, it was the "Magician" that really got me hooked on him (also got me into Corvettes, too :D ). Since that time, I had to watch just about anything he was in-sometimes over and over again just to watch HIM!! (Didn't care for the part he played in "Rich Man, Poor Man", but he was-after all-Bill Bixby). I remember recording his intro to a show called "Once Upon a Classic" on PBS. Man, I loved his voice. The only show that I really didn't get into was "Good Night, Beantown".

I still remember it clearly, she was a very classy lady. That was towards the end of the era where "Classy" photography was the key. Most of her photos were done of her in silhouette, with her long blonde hair being the thing that stood out most. For a brief while, the cover photo was also a popular poster with guys.
I think my love of ladies with long hair can be traced back to her. 8)

OK, it was early 80s? but still....

I agree with you on Rex Smith and had totally forgotten about Clark Brandon until I saw this picture. Yum!
So, here's my list
The requisite Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy
Scott Baio's cousin Jimmy (he was on Soap.....was that in the 70s?)
Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere and the Raiders
Rick Springfield (pre Noah Drake...he had a hit single in 72 and a Saturday morning cartoon called Mission Magic)
Mark Hudson of the Hudson Brothers (uncle to Kate Hudson & went on to co-write Livin on the Edge with Joe Perry and Steven Tyler)
Jack Wild
I'm very sure there were others but I'd have to go through back issues of Teen Beat in order to remember them now.
