The Guess Who formed out of "Chad Allan and the Reflections", and up until 1966, were sometimes known as "Chad Allan and the Expressions". Burton Cummings joined the group as Lead Singer in 1966. His first single with the group was "Believe Me"
"American Woman" was a one hit wonder in the UK. It reached #19 on the UK Singles chart

Must have been some British influence in those early days...
'Tribute To Buddy Holly' was originally recorded by Mike Berry & The Outlaws (a small British hit in 1961, which was banned by the BBC for being in 'poor taste' (eh?))
'Shakin' All Over' was originally recorded by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates in 1960...one of the finest British rock records ever made...
But sadly, Canada's favourite sons couldn't quite cast their spell on us Brits big time...
A shame, because a lot of their records are class...
