Subject: There's a certain melancholy about Funk...

Like soul and R'n'B, I think there was a certain melancholic quality to Funk music (of course this is a generalisation), despite its upbeat tempo. I find this from such songs as the Shaft Theme, some Parliament/Funkadelic, and even Curtis Mayfield's 'Superfly' and Earth, Wind and Fire.
