The Muppet Movie
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The Rescuers
I saw all of these in the theatres. Of course, this was in the early 80's when they were re-released :)

I chose Bedknobs And Broomsticks, Willy Wonka, and Bad News Bears was the favorite between the other 2.

"I want an Oompaa Loompa daddy, I want an Oompaa Loompaa NOWWWWWWW" :o There are so many great lines in that movie, mostly the ones by Gene Wilder when he makes the snide remarks to the kids. :D

In my opinion, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was the 'Wizard of Oz' of the 70s. Oh, here's a bit of trivia for you. It was called 'Willy Wonka' rather than 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' because the film was supposed to be one big long advert for a chain of sweets of the same name (like He-man the cartoon was to the action figures).
My choices were Willy Wonka, Bedsticks and Broomknobs and Robin Hood (Disney).

they talk about that, how nobody remembers the candy bar but the movie's gone on to be a classic among classics. and it was conceived as a 90-minute candy-bar advert!
here's a trivia quiz for ya: anybody know where the movie was shot? what location?

Was it shot in Austria or somewhere like that? I think it was only a couple of miles away from the actor who played Augustus Gloop.

germany is correct. i forget why they didn't shoot it in england like you'd expect. remember the scene at the end when they fly up in the gizmo and there's all these red roofs as far as the eye can see?
asking for the city is unfair of me, no one who hasn't seen the dvd commentary or looked it up could possibly know.

Willy Wonka, Robin Hood (I love the love song between him and Maid Marian), and hmmm, what was my other choice? lol
Willy Wonka I thought was filmed outside of Munich, Germany. My Aunt was living over there around the same time ;D

There is no 'other' option, so I'll be different and choose Alan Parker's 'Bugsy Malone'...
Had Disney's 'Jungle Book' been made a few years later, that would have clinched it!

i'm not a big believer in the "other" option. folks make suggestions for other movies in the thread anyway, ya know? but i sorta like the idea that if you vote, you should vote for something specific.
i actually missed bugsy malone but i remember when i was trolling around netflix looking for titles to put on this list i stumbled on a description of it and it sounded cool so i put it on my list.

Pipi Longstocking
Freaky Friday
I remember watching Freaky Friday in the cafeteria in Elementary School. This was back when they showed it on the movie projector. Inevitably, during every movie, the film would break and they would have to stop everything and reset the projector. :D

Yes, I was disheartened not seeing it there. I 35, and it's been my #1 film since 1976! The flick will finally hit our Region 1 DVD-playing shores soon.

Pippi was awesome. I remember beign aware that they were made overseas...I think these films are responsible for my hoity-toity artsy pain in the neck love of internationally made movies.

A Germany/Sweden production from 1969, that explains a lot.

I always thought it a great shame they made PIPPI LONGSTOCKING into a totally ridiculous film, for me the character went to pot (so to speak) once the books were put onto film.
We read Swedish author ASTRID LINDGRENS PIPPI books at school in the 1970's
some favourite kids films
'WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND' with Hayley Mills
THE JUNGLE BOOK

Charlotte's Web was basically the best 70's children's movie, IMO. Better than the 2006 remake.

Freaky Friday is one of my most favourite movies - so many classic scenes! The actress who played the mother was hilarious!
