Also known as the album between Led Zep III and Houses of the Holy;
It's called ZOSO youngster, and all of the songs on it are so overplay and have been heard by all of us over 45 so much that we don't even want to talk about them.............. (IMHO, that is)

The recording of the fourth album was completed in Feb. 1971. As it was being prepared for release, there was some talk of calling it Led Zeppelin VI . But Jimmy was against it. He was still pissed at the critics, and perhaps as a way of retaliating against or confusing them, he didn't want the album to have a title at all. He didn't even want Led Zeppelin's name anywhere on it. The album would be released without a title and with no words on the cover. Atlantic ended up simply putting Led Zeppelin on the spine of the album. On the front would be a pic of an old hermit bracing himself with a cane, carrying a bundle of wood on his back. Jimmy suggested that each member of the group choose a metaphysical symbol to put on the jacket. Most came from a book of runes that Jimmy showed them. Robert selected a feather in a circle, the sign of peace. Bonzo settled on a 3 ring design, a sign of unity. John Paul's symbol-- 3 ovals that converge within a circle, represented competence and self-confidence. Jimmy designed his own symbol, which seemed to spell the word zoso. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c235/badfingermike/bk_celebrat.jpg
He denied that it was a word at all and never told the band what it meant."Fans began calling the album by a number of names--Led Zeppelin 4(VI), Four Symbols, and Zoso were the most popular. But as far as the band was concerned, it was nameless.
--------this is from the book Stairway To Heaven, Led Zeppelin Uncensored, by tour manager Richard Cole.
this album is untiltled

Led Zeppelin just wanted to make it hard for everyone...most of all their fans! :D
I side with the faction who call it 'Led Zeppelin IV', sure it was officially untitled, but that's what most Led Zep fans know it as.

yeah, that's what I call it too. :) I haven't read that book in awhile but it was in my bookshelf and I recommend it to any Zep fan, but there are a ton of books if ya like to read about the bands you luv. IMHO, there is no such thing as overplayed when it comes to Zep or the Beatles. 8)

I've never been one to listen to songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...over again! Even the really good ones...kind of spoils the freshness of those songs.

This is definately one of the greatest albums ever produced. I have heard most of the tracks a little too often, though some I could listen to over and over. My personal favorite Led Zep album has to be Led Zeppelin III. Bron Y Aur Stomp, The Immigrant Song, Tangerine, Thats The Way....Perfection.

you found it on Netflix? awesome, burn it! I would bet that it's unauthorized but if it's about LZ IV than I want it. If you see it before me, please provide a review.

I just bought this on CD today, I swiped my brothers cassette tape back in the 70's but
I don't know what happened to it and reading through this thread I just had to go get it.
It seems most people rate my favorite song from this album 6th or worse. so my order:
1...Four Sticks
2...Battle Of Evermore
3...Blackdog
4...Misty Mountain Hop
5...Rock And Roll
6...Stairway To Heaven
7...When The Levee Breaks
8...Going To California

Being a former percussionist, I lean towards Four Sticks.
This is one of the few albums I can listen to from first song to last. I don't skip over any one of them.

Although a few good tunes here and there, overall it's not a great album. I, II, Physical Graffiti are much better.
1) Stairway to Heaven - one of the finest guitar solos
2) Rock and Roll
3) When the Levee Breaks
4) Black Dog
5)Misty Mountain Hop
6) Going to California
7) Four Sticks
8 ) Battle of Evermore = can I get an 'oh yeah' for album filler??
