Subject: The Car

I remember this TV movie from the late 70s,a possessed car? Obviously got the idea from a similiar film in '71, Stephen King's 'Duel' with Dennis Weaver. This one was okay, and that's stretching it, but not is good as the first.

Stephen Spielberg was the one who directed Duel
Stephen King had nothing to do with that movie, although he did later gain considerable fame for his own story of a possessed automobile, the iconic Christine. But that didn't come out until '82.

But I thought it was based on a story by Stephen King, which Spielberg directed. (?)

Nope. Duel was written by Richard Matheson. He's also a noted horror writer, just not as famous as King.

I remember this movie well, on the same night a few buddies and I saw it another guy we knew from our highschool stole his dads car right out of their driveway and went joyriding around town until he crashed it.

I remember this movie from my childhood, though I prefer Stephen King's 1982 Christine myself.
The Car had it's moments though, the scene where the bikeriders get run down comes to mind.

A really wild idea....After all the Jaws imitators {Grizzly , Day of the Animals , Pirhanha...etc.} some brilliant mind came up with..."How 'bout a killer car?"
Pretty mindless but still fun.....

I remember this film, I think I was actually scared when I saw it as a kid. Very bad, very funny now. :D
I remember this film was spoofed somewhat in the Futurama episode "The Honking" as Bender the robot had turned in to a "were-car"
