Subject: 70's ill fated spin offs
Written By: SweetAlice on 01/13/06 at 7:26 am
Shirley Hemphill (rip) from Whats Happening had a short lived spin off show. They took her out of the diner and made her into a secretary.
Does anyone remember the name of it?
Can you think of any other obscure 70's spin off shows that didn't make it?

Mork & Mindy-from Happy Days
The Jeffersons-from All in the Family
Maude-from All in the Family

Ive just had a brain wave...and everyone probably already realised this...but anyway...Im thinking that Three's Company was either a remake, or the original version of the Brittish TV classic 'Man About The House', and 'George And Mildred' (a spin off from Man About The House) was the British version of The Ropers.

I actually liked Phyllis better than the Mary Tyler Moore show.
To say that Enos was better than the Dukes of Hazzard is exactly like winning a beauty pageant in a leper colony.

Thanks Cat! I would have never remembered "One in a Million." That show must have lasted , what 2 episodes? I loved Shirl and I was excited that she was getting her own show. I also remember being greatly disappointed when the first episode aired.... bad idea! I saw a later "Whats Happening" last night , when Rog had his own place and I noticed Mabel King wasn't on the opening credits. What happened to her? Did her character die off? I dont think I was watching much at that point.

I actually thought Rhoda wasn't as good as MTM, and think she should have stayed on MTM.

But which came first as a spin-off, The Ropers or George and Mildred?
