Subject: Don't You Remember You told me you loved me Baby?
Written By: ValleyGirl on 11/17/05 at 8:10 pm
I just saw the part in Tommy Boy where they are driving down the road, and this song is playing on the radio by the Carpenters, and they end up bawling and singing it...I love the Carpenters...and this is a great song...does anyone else remember it?
Don't You Remember You Told Me you loved me Baby?
Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show.
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear, but you're not really here.
It's just the radio.
Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you, I really do.
Loneliness is such a sad affair, and I can hardly wait to be with you again.
What to say, to make you come again?
Come back to me again, and play your sad guitar.

Although I've never seen the movie, Tommy Boy. (I generally don't like the silly frat boy humor of those types of movies.) I do remember that song from the radio.

you know, somebody should do for music CDs what netflix does for DVDs.
in fact, forget i said anything. ima put together a business plan. you never read this. :-X

I have never watched Tommy Boy either...it just happened to be on, and my son was flipping through it, and that is the scene that was playing, and I was like...oh my gosh...I love that song.
I love We've Only Just Begun....I like all their songs. They were sweet and innocent....and where is that in today's world??

I love this song....I also really like the cover The Carpenters did of Mr. Postman...as well as their own song: Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft.
Karen Carpenter had a brilliant voice.

I love the Carpenters. Superstar is probably my second favourite song after (They Long To Be) Close To You.

"Calling Occupants" was a cover tune as well. A group named Klaatu did it first.

I agree those are my favs along with We've Only Just Begun. Who knows how many more hits they would of had if it had not been for the tragic death of Karen. :\'(

Always thought The Carpenters were 'hokey'. My wife bought their greatest hits CD and it is good and I mean really GOOD. Karen Carpenter was underrated as a singer. Her tone and timing were sublime.
Yesterday Once More is a fav of mine........

Love The Carpenters too! Another good one not yet mentioned is Won't Last A Day Without You. Beautiful!
They even (IMHO) did a better job of Ticket To Ride than the Beatles. :o
Her voice just soars on that track!

I totally agree...whenever I hear Ticket to Ride in my head- it's always Karen's voice I hear.

My favorite Carpenters songs are Top of the World and Please Mr Postman - the only one I don't like is There's a Kind of Hush.

I doubt anyone can cover the Carpenters and keep it true. The closest cover I have heard of their song is Superstar and Luther Vandross did it. I love his cover but still it is not close to the Carpenter's Original. I love Touch Me When Were Dancing, and Close to You.

The Carpenters are before my time (Karen died five days before I was born), but I love their songs to death. However, I've only recently been able to admit it to anybody, lol.
