My first concert wasn't really a concert, but more of an outdoor show.  In 2001, I went to the Belleville Waterfront Festival and saw Canadian rap artist "Snow"  ;D

The crowd sure went wild when he sang his hit "The Plumb Song"  ;D

Hardly even close!

They almost didnt come because they had only sold like 200 tickets but in the end there was close to 700 sold so it was ok.

I also saw Helix, Haywire, Honeymoon Suite, Zappa Costa, Spandau Ballet and The Tragically Hip all at the memorial centre.

Aside from a couple of concerts my parents took me to when I was practically a baby (Tijuana Brass at the Hollywood Bowl when I was about 4 or 5 is the only one I remember) ~ the first one I went to on my own was Elton John at Dodger Stadium in 1976.  I was 12 and I went with a girlfriend of mine who was also 12!  I'll never forget it.

Mine was the Cowsills at a local amusement park. I must have been about 8 or 9.  My next one was when I was 13 or 14, I went to see B.J. Thomas and Debbie Boone (  ::) ) with a friend of mine. I only went because she wanted to go and didn't want to go alone. Since I didn't have anything better to do, I said, "What the hell."

My first concert -- Alice Cooper in the early '70s.

It was an eye opener for me. It was then that I first realized "the real world" was so much different than what I saw on television.

Yes,and Judas Priest was quite impressive, except when
the microphone came unplugged during "Diamonds and Rust"
Rob Halford kept singing and the roadies were trying to plug
the microphone back in but Halford kept moving. It was hilarious

I threw all my ticket stubs out when I moved years ago - what a mistake!
Anyway, I was about 13 years old when my older brother's friends dragged me to see Head East. Here's what I remember - thousands of people...dope smoking...colored lights...people standing on top of the restrooms/concession stands/light towers/each other. Needless to say I was hooked. Bought my very own KISS tickets weeks later and was never the same!

My Dad took me to see ACDC at Newcastle's Civic Theater. Im not sure what year it was, but I know I was at least five, and that was in 1977. I remember seeing Bon Scott and hearing him sing. Angus jumped from the balcony overlooking the stage (a massive drop) and landed in the crowd.

I remember when Dirty Deeds came on I stood up and yelled so loud my voice hurt. I also remember being about the only kid my age there among a sea of black T-shirts and long hair. It was awsome.

Ive seen ACDC since Bon Scott's death, but they just arent the same.

Yeah, Angus did wear the school boy outfit. I also remember Bon dressing up in drag while singing Can I Sit Next To You Girl.

Dont get me wrong, I do like Brian Johnson in ACDC, but Im not sure if it was simply the feel or the time, but the concerts of ACDC back then just seemed to have a whole different feel to them.

1975 as a 14 year old Kiss freak. Niagara Falls Convention Center- Kiss with  Blue Oyster Cult as warm up. After that, again N.F.C.C. (a little more talent, too!) ZZ Top with Blue OysterCult warming up again, and a third act: Starz .My third show was a little more talented yet: At what was then Rich Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills. Donavan, j. Geils Band, Bob Seger, and headlining, Yes. These were some good days with good music.

Linda Ronstadt,in 1976, at the Garden State Arts Center(now PNC Performing Arts Center, I think)..she opened the concert with "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me"..

But the BIGGEST concert I've ever been to is when the BEACH BOYS did a FREE CONCERT in Atlantic City,on the beach next to the now-defunct Ocean One Mall,it was 1983 I think, Ceasars Atlantic City got the Beach Boys to come here after James Watt(then Secretary of the Interior) denied them the traditional July 4th concert on the Washington, DC Mall..

I was only 13 in 1969, but I would have loved to been at woodstock. I saw Marshall Tucker band, Charlie Daniels, Fleetwood Mac, Elvin Bishop, War, Tower of Power thruout the 70's and some still in the 80's & 90's. I wished I could have seen Alice Cooper during his heyday, but my frigging OVERPROTECTIVE foster parents said no...I wonder if it was because of my disability or because I was thirteen and a ward of the State..? I would have been going with someone older than me, an older gal, who was very responsible!

I plan to see P.O.D. someday but I'm gonna wait until they come to Philly, they are coming to Borgata in Atlantic City but they are not headlining.

This is the first time I'm replying to a "1970's" decade post. My first 70's concert was a benefit concert for people in Bangla Desh held at Madison Square Garden, New York City on August 1, 1971 called "George Harrison and Friends Concert". George Harrison and Ravi Shankar organized it within a few weeks. It was the first concert that a "Beatle" did after their break-up that drew "Stars" like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and Ringo Starr but only as a drummer in the band. Bad Finger, Billy Preston and about twenty or more popular singers and band members of that time. The rumer going around before the concert was that all the Beatles were getting back together for this one time only concert for George's benefit...but Paul and John weren't talking to each other then and blew it off...2 out of 4 of them was cool!

They gave two shows in that one day, I went to the second show, this is the show that they recorded most of the Bangla Desh album from, and I'm on that album cheering....yeah! along with the other twenty thousand fans. All those Stars and the tickets were only $12.50, today they would be a few hundred dollars. It would have been worth it, it was a terrific terrific one time only show of it's kind and I still have fond memories of it.

That was my last cool concert, other concerts later on in the 70's were wifey ones...that's a different story.

It would have been worth it, it was a terrific terrific one time only show of it's kind and I still have fond memories of it.

That was my last cool concert, other concerts later on in the 70's were wifey ones...that's a different story.

My first was Gene Pitney, I guess the majority of you don't know him, but there are a few
out there who do.  ;)

I was 11 yrs old. It was  1978, my cousin  took me to see Leif Garrett at the MN State Fair. I didn't even like him . I was into Shaun Cassidy !  He did do a great rendition of "Surfin USA" though.

Hi Danoota, yeah I remember him well, I just resently bought a CD "Gene Pitney Greatest Hits", I had an album of his that's long gone and I wanted to hear his song "I'm Going to be Strong" again and bought the CD for that song alone, but most of his other songs are good also, "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" and "Every Breath I Take" are really great cuts too. He reminds me a lot of Roy Orbison on the "I'm going to be Strong" song.

You did a good thing getting to see him in concert back then, I didn't, and wish now that did. I wonder what he's doing today or if he's even alive? I'll check Google on him.

From what I understand he spends a lot of time touring in England, but lives in Connecticut, I think that
is where he is from.  I have his greatest hits to, and remember when they all came out. "I'm Going to be
Strong" is probably the best, and "It Hurts to be In Love"

You mean he still does concerts? I have to check him out and see if he'll be in the NYC area, maybe I'll go and  see him.

You know, as I listen to those old hits of his today, many song he sings on that album he sounds like he's mimicking other Artists styles and I'm trying to remember some of the Rock and Roll singers he sounds like, "I"m going to be Strong" he sounds like Roy Orbison singing, Johnny Rivers on "Twenty four Hours from Tulsa", Bobby Goldsboro on "It Hurts to be in Love", and he sounds like Bobby Vinton on a couple of others. Is it me or do you hear what I hear?

You are right, although I never thought about it before.  He does the oldies circuit. I know he has been in the Boston area within the past year or two.  I just googled this

www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=gene+pitney

He plays a lot in the northeast, beware, you see the names of songs and you just have to hear them.

3rd May 1976 Elton John at the Liverpool Empire (10 miles from my house). Four weeks to the day later I went to my second concert: The Who at Charlton Athletic Football Ground (200 miles from my house). Quite a step up from an indoor concert in a small venue close to home!

Other people mentioned on this thread:

The Kinks - I think I've seen them three times, but I've seen Ray on his own more than that. Most recently two months ago.

The Beatles - I've never seen any of them, but I've seen Ringo's son playing with The Who - a better drummer than his dad.

Gene Pitney - not my sort of thing, but for those who are interested he's playing in Liverpool early 2006 (April I think).

AC/DC - I saw them supporting The Who in 1979 and was so impressed I nearly went to see them a couple of months later. But Christmas was coming, I was going to loads of concerts, and I was short of money. "There'll be another chance" I thought to myself. Then Bon Scott died a couple of months later. Ah well.  :\'(

My first concert that I went with my parents to was Sha-Na-Na (with Bowzer), and Dr. Hook opened for them.  I was young, probably around 8 or 10.  I remember we had seats on the side of the arena, so that you could kinda see some of what ws going on behind stage.  I remember the dressing room door opening, and seeing Bowzer standing there smoking a cigarette.  Wow did I think that was bad!   ;D  I was so naive.

I just realised a few months ago Sha Na Na were the same people who did a lot of the background singing in "Grease" and that because of "Grease" is how they got their own variety show and stuff..

Actually Sha Na Na was around long before Grease. In fact, they played at Woodstock.

Yeah, that's true. I think what I meant was that the Grease thing sort of catapulted them to get the variety show. It was sorta what triggered it.

Vaguely. Rick Springfield in Philadelphia PA.

My sister & I won't allow our daughters & their friends go to a Concert alone, so we chaperoned....a, drat, what's the PC term, mentally handicapped? young man was trying to pick up us two "old ladies". We were a whole lot more wild then our daughter's & friends. Had a blow-out on what they call the Sckull-KILL expressway because so many people die on it. Scary moment...angel must have been there that I got car safely from the left lane to the shoulder.

It is embarrassing. The first music act I saw was in a High School....Little Anthony & the Imperials! They were great...high energy & splits & things. They had a lot of Motown Revues at the College, but I wasn't allowed to go; 'too young" to my protest "He's a boy" was why my brother got to go.

Mi-Sex

The Who

I there were others, but that will do for now.

Queen -- The News of the World Tour in LA

The first song of the night was "We will Rock You."  & the last song of the night was "We will Rock You."  In fact, if I remember right that song was played seven times that night.

We saw Ray Charles & it was incredible.

My first concert without mom & grandma was Donny & Marie Osmond (stop laughing) I was only 10 & went with my "cool, older" cousin.

I also saw Shaun Cassidy that summer (cool older cousin again)

I remember seeing Queen in Australia in the early to mid 1980's. I remember them playing the 'Flash' dum dum dum dum dum for a good 20 minutes. Couldnt seen anyone on stage though. At first people were all excited and cheering, but after the first 10 minutes people just went about their own thing, until, with a flash of light and the sound of Freddy Mercury's voice, the song started. I think it was to promote the Flash Gordon movie soundtrack.

I saw Queen in Brisbane in about 1977 - Freddy Mercury wore red and white hot pants and was SO good.  It was one of those nights I'll never forget.
