Subject: Anyone remember this wheel toy?
Written By: cholericprotazoa on 10/25/05 at 3:42 pm
i am looking for a toy I had as a child. I have no idea of the name, but I'll describe to the best of my ability.
It was a crank/flywheel toy, like the Evel Knievel Motorcycle toy, but it had a wheel instead of the motorcycle, The base was red and had a crank on the right side, handle on the top, and a threaded rod(for the wheel) on the left side. The wheel was made of soft rubber and plastic and about 5 or 6 inches. I don't remember if it made any noise or not. Any way you would crank up the wheel as fast is it would go and either stop cranking or crank the the opposite direction and the wheel would spin off the base, running into pets, furniture and mom's ankle. ;D
Ive been goggling and searching for quite awhile now, any help is GREATLY appreciated :)

I remember that. The flying part looked kinda like a wagon wheel but the spokes were angled more like a pinwheel to keep it in the air. It didn't take much to keep us entertained in those days. I wonder how a toy like that would go over with the kids today. Im guessing it wouldn't be very popular.

Same idea and similar. Instead of a motorcycle it had just a single wheel. The handle ran in the other direction and was T shaped. The crank was a single arm, like a bike.

The Marx toy factory was near to where I grew up. It closed down years ago (I'm thinking the early 90s). Someone cared enough to make a Marx Toy Museum in Moundsville, WV.
