Subject: "The Jerk"

Steve Martin is primarily an 80's (and later) movie star, but this - from '79, was his first starring role.
I caught it on TV at my dad's recommendation as a kid in the earlier 90's, and loved it right off. Took a few viewings to completely place the storyline together, but it had some great scenes. Especially the whole time Navin (SM's character) worked at a gas station.
The sniper trying to shoot him and hitting motor oil cans. "He hates these cans!" ;D

Steve Martin had some absolutely hilarious scenes in "The Jerk". I love the part where he talks about donating blood every day to earn money, until one morning he cuts himself shaving, and nothing comes out.
The "he hates these cans!" scene is a hoot!

Great movie, I saw it in theaters when it was out, and every year when the new phone books arrive ;D you know ;)

I also like the scene where Steve Martin discovers "white man's music" for the first time, and starts snapping his fingers and dancing badly.

I totally agree.
One of my favorite lines is when his girlfriend is showing him the tattoo with his name on it on her butt and he said,"First I get my name in the phone book and now I'm on your ass. You know, I'll bet more people see that than the phone book."
I also love the duet he does with Bernadette Peters. They both have a lot of muical talent and even though this was a comedy, I don't think their duet was comic-just really good.
