Subject: The Patchwork Family
Written By: lorac614 on 06/29/05 at 1:28 pm
Hi all!
I seem to remember a show that was on in the 70's called The Patchwork Family, I can't seem to a lot about the show except that there was a puppet named Rags. Does anyone else remember this one?
Thanks!

I don't know much about this show, but I have found out some interesting things. For example, Joanna Pang was on this show before she got the role of Cindy Lee from "Isis"! I found an "Isis" fan site, http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/isis/home.html, which has an interview with Joanna Pang. She talks not only about "Isis", but about her time on "Patchwork Family" as well! The interview is at http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/isis/pang2.html.

Wow, this one is not even on IMDb! And if you look up Joanna Pang on IMDb it isn't even listed in her filmography. http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0659391/
What kind of show was it?

It was a kids show, probably on Saturday mornings, but like I said all I really remember is the puppet rags. Maybe it was a local program, I grew up in NY.
Thanks

I remember the whole theme song:
We want to have YOU as a member of the Patchwork Family!
There's plenty to do as a member of the Patchwork Family!
We're looking for sisters, and brothers, and all sorts of others,
like nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins -
We need members by the dozens!
All kinds of people in the Patchwork Family!
We're gonna be happy as can be,
because it's certified and stated
that everyone's related
in the Patchwork Family!
And I remember that Rags loved jelly beans and would eat a whole bowlful if one was left unattended.
That's pretty much all I remember.

"Patchwork Family" was a staple of Saturday mornings in NYC in the 70's-80's. It was an educational type of show that employed NYC and New Jersey schoolteachers that hosted segments such as arts, suing-alongs, etc. Example: an art teacher would take his drawing pad and just SCRIBBLE on it to his heart's content, and then use the lines to trace out shapes they made (a rabbit, a cat, etc.) In between commercials, there was a rebus puzzle, and at the show's end, Carol would solve it.

This is way to funny!!! My kids said, "dad, can i be on TV someday"? I told them that I was one of the kids on the Patwork Family and they still don't believe me. I'm showing them the newspaper clippings now. It True!!!! If any of my old (which they would all be now), buddies want to connect, email me at jbarnett@aol.com.
