Try Gords Gold 1 and Gords Gold 2 Tayna, if it's all new to you you're in for a treat. I grew up with his music, I'll vote for Carefree Highway but they're all favorites :)

I love this guys music too! I agree that "Gord's Gold 1 & 2" will be a major treat for anyone who has never listened to it before, (so have fun Tanya).
On a curious note,
I'm not quite sure how to describe this, and it may just be my imagination, but I've noticed that G. Lightfoot's music has a very tribal American Indian feel to it. If you turn the volume low it sounds like chanting.
I was exposed to a lot of American Indian (Cherokee/Seminole primarily) culture and chanting songs when I was a kid, and his music always brings that back to me. The tone, cadence and key he sings in just sound tribal to me. ÂÂ
Does anyone else hear it? or is it just me reading into it...

Thanks everyone (especially Gord) for the recommendations. Honestly, I am so familiar with only "Sundown" and "If You Can Read My Mind" that I can't wait to hear everything ELSE he has to offer (though I still love these two songs).
I'll see if I can get a deal on Amazon or if I visit a music shop on Melrose Place.

I love Gord's Gold, but when I finally got Gord's Gold 2, I didn't like it much at all. I remember the sound quality was awful, so maybe that was a big part of it. I got it from BMG Music Club, so I don't know if that makes any difference, as opposed to getting the original version...

Yeah,Gord's Gold 2 is a bunch of redone songs. You'd probably have to pick up the original albums on cd to get the original versions of the songs.

"Sundown" and "Carefree Highway". My third favourite was one he did in 1986 called "Anything For Love". It was a collaboration with David Foster, and just a simply beautiful song :)

Good picks...those would be my choices too. 8)
But the latter doesn't appear on there...neither does "Other." :-\\ Guess I'll have to choose just the two.

I grew up with Gord's music, and as much as I love it all, 'Carefree Highway' remains my all-time favorite by him! :) :)

Cool: I find myself walking around singing that song all the time. It amazes me when people don't know it!
Good taste, once again!

The three 'big hitters' (even tho' they didn't in the UK!)
'Edmund Fitzgerald'
'If You Could Read My Mind'
'Sundown'
...there was one more minor hit he had here, but not included on the list...the excellent 'Daylight Katy'...

He's great! My favorite isn't on the list, Beautiful.
Kudos to Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald (slightly overplayed here - but really, truth is indeed stranger than fiction), also Carefree Highway and Sundown. But most of his songs are good.
:)
