Subject: Please answer a question for me
Written By: ADH13 on 03/04/05 at 7:34 pm
My friends and I have been trying to figure this out with no luck.
When I was a kid in the 70's, I remember having a pair of roller skates with metal wheels and a skate key.
Later, I got the ones with the plastic (usually colored) wheels and the rubber stopper in the front. We cannot remember how we stopped in the old metal-wheeled skates. None of us can remember those skates having a stopper, but there must have been some way to stop or we would have been crashing into everything.
If anyone can remember, my friends and I would appreciate some help! :-\\

I remember those old medal skates that attacted to your shoes. I don't remember them having a stopper. The way we used to stop was to hold our hands out and catch something-i.e. a wall, a pole, a car, a sister, etc. ;) Of course ours were a bit rusty so we didn't go very fast on them anyway. ::)

I had the strap on kind you put on over your shoes, they were the metal ones. You could never go fast anyway, so stopping wasn't much of a problem.

Yep me and all my friends had metal strap ons without a stopper. We could pick up quite a speed on the back roads and it was generally only the kerb or a tree that stopped us ! That or our skinned kneecaps !
