I've heard the record a few times. Rick Dees used to be a disk jockey on KIIS FM (a station in the Los Angeles area) for a long time; I listened to him for a time during the 90s. I even knew his son Kevin when I was in 3rd grade.

Thankfully, I never heard "Feelings" and never heard of The DeFranco Family.  :D

I picked "Disco Duck." "You Light Up My Life" was overplayed. I remember hearing it as often as every 30 minutes on the radio, which is why I got tired of it. I remember "Feelings." Not a very good song...

Even now, at the age of 40, I find myself uncontrollably breaking out into song with "Disco Duck". Much, however, to my children's chagrin... ;D

Ironically, according to Billboard, You Light Up My Life was the Number One Pop Song of the Seventies, having spent more time at the top spot than any other song in the Top 40. 

I hate both the songs as much as the next guy.

However, "Run Joey Run" by David Geddes gets my vote as the worst pop song of the 70's, maybe ever.

"You Light Up My Life" was better, "Disco Duck" was just a novelty song. (one hit wonder)

Disco Duck is so bad, it's good! It may be corny, but it's very funny listening it again, especially considering how people tend to gag on newer genres of music like rap and trap. It has a funky bassline too!

However, You Light Up My Life is the equivalent of 10 times the amount of sugar in a normal bowl of cereal. It's better off being heard in a Broadway production, not a pop radio station.

This is kind of a false equivalency. It's apples and oranges. "Disco Duck" was meant to be a novelty song. It's ridiculous on purpose. "You Light Up MY Life" was intended to be good. They are both utter failures at what they tried to do. "Disco Duck" isn't even a good novelty song and "You Light Up MY Life" is just plain awful. Suffice to say they are both painfully terrible songs.

When I think of new music that Boomers were listening to in the 70s, songs like “You Light Up My Life” comes up first and foremost. So, I went with “Disco Duck” because it’s not as memorable or even timeless like “You Light Up My Life” is.

I saw Debby Boone (and B.J. Thomas) in concert. It wasn't a concert that I REALLY wanted to go to but I had a friend who wanted to go and didn't want to go alone. I had nothing better to do and in those days concerts were affordable-even for a couple of 15 year olds I figured, what the hell. And I did enjoy myself. When we walked out, I said, "I think I'm in love" referring to B.J. Thomas and my friend said, "I KNOW I'm in love."

Thomas, because a few weeks back I went on a road trip to Arkansas with a friend of mine, and we were talking about our childhood memories of the 1970's and what songs we remembered from the AM radio when our dads (both of ours who are gone now) were driving around. And then my friend started singing, "Hey, won't you play, another...somebody done somebody wrong song..."

And then that damn song got stuck in my head and at first I was irritated but soon I started liking it unironically, and the next thing I knew I was singing that song while I was at work.

When we were once in the Philippines. we visited a shrine high on a hill. On reaching the top, being played over the PA System was "You Light Up My Life", and when a chorus started, dogs started howling, almost in tune to the song.
