Subject: What was the scariest thing in the 70's?
Written By: JamesMcDone on 11/02/04 at 2:01 pm
One of the scariest thing was to see Sean Connery in a wedding dress and a giant baby diaper from the movie 'Zardoz'.

If it's movies you're talking about then Deliverance and Jaws. Both turned me off canoe trips and midnight swims in the ocean. :)

If you're talking about movies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Black Christmas, The Exorcist along with a list of other terrifying movies.
As for current events, the hostage crisis (and subsequent murder) of Israeli Olympic athletes in Berlin.

When I was in the Peace Corps and you were sick a lot and had to go to the 3rd world out-house in the pitch black night and there were spiders and snakes everywhere. I would carry a flashlight in one hand and a machete in the other :o

Yup-it did. What is scary about it is that it can (and has) happened again.

Margaret Thatcher...
...yes, I'm aware that most of her 'damage' was created in the 80s - but this was the decade when she first gained prominence, and when I (and thousands of others) first encountered the name...
Scary enough in any decade, really...

Yep...when she was the Education minister, one of her first 'achievements' was putting the kibosh on the free milk for schooolkids...
I s'pose it set the tone for what was to happen in the 80s...

the scariest thing in the 70's?
I remember the night me & 2 tough guy friends went to the drive-in movies to drink some beer & get high & laugh at the stupid movie that had just released & had everyone talking about it. It was The Exorcist & I think it was when regan's head spun around and the demon voice inside her was taunting & defying the priests that me & my 2 hoodlum pals realized this wasn't funny, but what was funny was when they tried to turn down the theatre window speaker that you hang in your car. They turned it down, but you could still hear her voice bellowing from every other speaker in the other cars in the drive-in.

I suppose David Bowie's appearance during his Ziggy Stardust days was kinda scary for some people - kind of like a '70s Marilyn Manson.

Hmm to me to be honest was when China invaded North Vietnam at the end of 79. It almost began WWIII, USSR and China where closer to a war then we where in the cuban missile crisis. At the time, and us of course down playing what would or could have been major total loss. But thank our lucky stars China backed down from the USSR and pulled out...True story...
