Subject: Favorite Song From 1975

Written By: CeramicsFanatic on 08/19/04 at 4:47 pm

Lots of good songs here!

As much as I love all 'Eagles' songs, I had to go with "Pick Up The Pieces" (AWB) as my number one choice.  "One Of These Nights" would be second.  8)

A strange year, 1975...us lot went from the sublime ('Bo Rhap') to the ridiculous ('Funky Gibbon/Funky Moped/Laurel & Hardy (!)) via anything by the Bay City Rollers...hm...

From the list above, most could've done it...but The Captain & Tennille get my thumbs-up, just because it's The Captain & Tennille...! Oh, and a catchy little piece of fluff...

But the best effort from '75, although it isn't here, is Jigsaw's 'Sky High'...superb tune...

Ahead of its time, because it's a remake of Jackson 5 song from 1971 ??

I chose "Lady Marmalade" because it was personally meaningful for me.  My daddy was from Louisiana and he used to tell me that I was his Lady Marmalade and that my skin was silky smooth just like hers, like "mocha chocolate."  He'd taught me how to speak French and so I would ask him, "voulez-vous coucher avec moi?" and "Gitchi gitchi ya ya da da."  I think that was kind of a play on "Get your yaya's out, daddy!"  We would drink magnolia wine while he watched me undressing in my "boudoir."  We'd pretend that we were married while my mother was working the night shift.  Sometimes he would take me downtown and men would buy us things and come over to our place and my daddy would pretend that he was a priest and marry us.  Then we'd have a honeymoon but I never felt afraid because my daddy was always there in the closet, watching us while these men told me they loved me and wanted to make me happy and feel like a woman.  And then the school year ended and we went on vacation to Thailand and I didn't hear that song again until I was in the third grade.

This post reminds me of a very funny quote:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

"How Long" by Ace
"Jackie Blue" by Ozark Mountain Daredevils
...and possibly a couple others
