Subject: Drawing Apparatus
Written By: tsunamimom on 08/04/04 at 8:48 pm
Does anyone remember a drawing toy sold in the 70's? It was a frame arrangement with a sucker in the middle to stabilise it. You inserted a pencil in one end and using the tracer end on the other, could reproduce a line drawing or design, even scaling it if you wanted to.
I really hope someone remembers these things - I'm on a hunt for one and can't think of the name!
love
Jo

I know what you mean. I've used one relatively recently to make models of hillls from a contour map.
Is it Sketchmaster?
I'll ask my husband, he might recall the name.

It was called Sketch Master. There's one currently for sale on e-bay (UK)

This drawing apparatus sound familiar. I received one as a birthday or X-mas gift in the late 70s. I remember it was marketed by K-Tel. The pitch - one was supposed to use this thing to make an exact copy of some simple line art. Don't recall if I had much success with it...probably not.

Ah yes, the Etch-A-Sketch...had one of those, as well, but I think the thing mentioned here is a scissors-like contraption (excuse the non-scientific descrip) with a pencil in one end and a stylus at the other where one could trace, say, a picture from a girly Disney magazine with the stylus and the pencil-end would mark the exact same thing onto your paper. Theory seemed sound, practical result less-than-favorable.
