Just heard fantastic cover version of "love of the common people" by Raggae star Nicky Thomas.
Put Paul Young's version to shame.

Yes, a fine version...not sure if it was 'the' original, but it was certainly the first to chart (in the UK at any rate) in 1970...
Probably a bit of an acquired taste to those not familiar with it, but I was brought up on it! Paul's version wasn't that bad...I've heard worse...

Think it was originally an Everly Brothers song, can't really get my head round what that would have sounded like.

I did a little bit of 'investigating' too, and according to my sources it was originally recorded by The Four Preps (remember'Big Man' or '26 Miles'?), but then I couldn't say for certain...I've not heard this version myself...

I think James Taylor's 1975 recording of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" is a fantastic cover. :) (The original was by Marvin Gaye in 1964.)
