I voted for "other": "You Really Got Me." I'm surprised that one wasn't listed.

Van Halen did not really become a band until Sammy Hagar joined them in '85. Up to that point, they were a two headed Vagas lounge act.

Roth maybe was better suited as a lounge singer but you have to give some credit to Eddie for being a GREAT guitar player ;)

Dance the Night Away! Tough choice because all these songs were good.

I'll always sing Eddie's praises as a guitar God. Hagar's voice was better suited to his guitar playing. Roth was a total clown.

THAT is exactly why I'm glad to see that "VanHagar" are back together, Im Batman! They will be coming back to Denver this summer.... :)

I wish I could change my vote now...since I didn't know "Jamie's Cryin'" when this poll was posted.
but hey, I guess my "Other" vote is valid, since I can't really decide between that one and "You Really Got Me"...with "Dance The Night Away" a close third.

I didn't vote for any because:
I saw Van Halen when they opened for Black Sabbath on Aug. 29, 1978. This show had a couple of special
meanings. It was Van Halens first tour and Black Sabbath's last tour with Ozzy.
I didn't care for Van Halen then, though Eddie was a novelty, and I don't care for them now.

little guitars is one of their most overlooked masterpieces, although i think that one was probably early 80s.

I agree with that. I think it was overlooked because Diver Down, itself, was overlooked and, I think, shunned by many Van Halen fans. I admit I don't know the numbers of that album; how well it did...
I know, among my circle, it was considered more of a novelty than anything else, with it's assortment of covers and other oddities. Like, not a REAL Van Halen album...
Okay, VH 70s...Light Up the Sky from VH2. A rousing and busy little number...

diver down is probably my favorite album by them. if i remember it was my first album of theirs and it wasn't all self-consciously heavy, it had heavy parts and more melodic, laid-back tunes. they were starting down the road that led to that disastrous later-year easy-listening VH (featuring valerie bertinelli in the role of yoko ono) but they hadn't gone all the way down there yet. albums with good dynamic range, extremes of light and heavy, have a lot more emotional impact to my mind.
but probably their getting all laid back was part of the reason a lot of fans didn't like that album so much.

On Fire (from 1st album)
I've been a Van Halen fan since 1979 so it was hard to pick one.

Running With The Devil ----- Hands Down my favorite. The fading riff at the very end of the song leaves you wanting more and more!

Oh hell yeah, just put one speaker on either side of your head and crank it up, and suddenly everything is better. http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/12/headbang.gif
