Subject: What is your favorite 70's song?
Hi gang...
I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'm hoping this will start a new thread and get the 70's messageboard rolling. What is your favorite song from the 1970's and why?
Mine is "Time Passages" by Al Stewart. The song reached #7 on the charts in 1978 and every time I hear it I'm reminded of 6th grade and walking to the stores with my friends to buy candy. LOL!

It's a three way tie between Led Zeppelin's "All My Love" and "D'yer Mak'er," and Seals And Crofts's "Diamond Girl." There's plenty more I love, but, as of now, these three are unmatched in my book.

Hey, TB! I'm with ya on Led Zeppelin's "All Of My Love". What a great song! I do of course have other favorites besides what I mentioned. I am a big fan of Gerry Rafferty and love his song "Right Down The Line". Also there was a song that came out around 1978 by a little-known duo called LeBlanc & Carr. It's a ballad and it's called "Falling". I remember this being a really big radio hit at the time. I guess I would have to say that overall I go more for the folk-rock sound! LOL!

Totally - and I didn't even know, until recently, that it was Led Zeppelin who sang that song. I really enjoy their music. Quite "spirited," I would say. I could almost feel the emotion he puts into the song - the breathlesness from a long crescendo, the "choking" on words, the lingering voice after a long chorus and at the end as the song fades. "D'yer Mak'er" has the same qualities and probably a bit more; I consider it the most un-Led Zeppelin song they've made - not a rocking tune, but a mellow reggae that one could listen on a hot Sunday afternoon at the beach.
Of course, there's plenty more songs I like, but I'm more into the theatrics of the 70s. David Bowie, T. Rex, Rush, Queen (!!!), The New York Dolls, The Sex Pistols, Aerosmith, Supertramp, etc. The folksy type music is good - unfortunately, I've only had the same exposure as most people have, which is, pretty much, none. I can only think of famous artists like Carole King, Rita Coolidge, Kris Kristofferson, America, and a couple of other bands and singers. If I had more money, I'd think of expanding my music repertoire, but, as of now, I can barely keep up with the 80s stuff...
