Subject: "Clackers"
Does anyone remember the toy called Clackers? (I think that was the name.) It was two hard plastic balls on a sturdy string. With an up and down motion with your hand, you tried to get these two balls to "clack" together above and below the level of your hand. If you got the right rhythm, these balls would smack together in a constant motion, up, down, up, down, "clacking" for all it was worth. Some kids brought them to school and it wasn't long until our Principal outlawed them. There were national reports of these balls exploding and kids getting hurt from the flying plastic.

I remember them as being called click clacks. They ended up being banned because they would break apart and go flying.

I knew the word clack was in the name somewhere. I think Clackers was a cereal in the early 70's.

Actually it looks like you were closer to the real name than me. Try this site

Thanks for the picture, rf. I can honestly say I don't remember ever referring to that toy as a Popper Knocker. Yikes! What a name!
