Subject: Definition of & list of "Seventies Super Groups"

Written By: Jim on 7/7/2000 at 10:21 p.m.

What were the full qualifications for categorizing a band as a 70s Super Group? (I am not talking about the "great" bands of the 60s and 70s, I am talking about the categorization of a "Super
Group" which loosely means "a group consisting of members from various other bands from the late 60s thru 70s)."

Following this, what where the actual bands who met this qualification?

Finally, what were the qualifications to be and what were the "original bands" that produced members for the subsequent "Super Groups?"

A "super group" was exactly what you said it was: a group whose members were already famous due to their participation in another group.

The first one, I believe, was Blind Faith in 1969 with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker of Cream and Steve Winwood of Traffic.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Keith Emerson of The Nice and Greg Lake of King Crimson) and Bad Company (Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke of Free and Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople) were others.
